Peikoff's Summa   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-18)
Peikoff assumes that the reader is familiar with her novels, and has a fairly high tolerance for abstraction.
Peikoff presents Objectivism with careful attention to its hierarchical structure, proceeding from the axioms of metaphysics and epistemology; to the issues of sense-perception, concept-formation, and the nature of knowledge; to the values and virtues of the Objectivist ethics; to political philosophy and aesthetics.
Peikoff unifies these two realms by noting that an organism's life is its existence; by choosing to live, we are adhering to reality in the same way that we are when we choose to think.

Leonard Peikoff - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Leonard Peikoff (born 1933) is an Objectivist philosopher and author.
Peikoff's first book, published in 1982, The Ominous Parallels, was simultaneously an Objectivist explanation of the rise of the Third Reich and the Holocaust, and a warning that America was being led down the road to fascism because of certain intellectual parallels between Weimar Germany and the United States.
Peikoff is also known for campaigning on behalf of Elián González's right to remain in Florida, rather than returning to his father in Cuba, stating that "To send a child to rot in the prison of Cuba for the alleged sake of his own well-being is criminal hypocrisy.

Peikoff has previously helped define and validate the Objectivist theory of induction in the lecture series "Objectivism Through Induction" and the course "Induction in Physics and Philosophy." Decision making is the cognitive process leading to the selection of a course of action among alternatives.
Peikoff was a member of the Collective (a group of Rand's closest associates) during the 50's and 60's.
Leonard Peikoff, Ayn Rand's executor and intellectual heir, promotes Objectivism as a "closed system" that consists solely of what Rand herself wrote and said, and considers any essential disagreement with what Rand said as a betrayal of Objectivism.

As Plato was to Socrates, as Mencius was to Confucius, as Chuang-tzu was to Lao-tzu, as Lucretius was to Epicurus, and as Aquinas was to Aristotle, Leonard Peikoff is to Ayn Rand.
Peikoff has broken new ground (or perhaps reclaimed old ground) for philosophy; making forays into the realms of science, education, business, politics, religion, grammar, history, just war theory and art (including literature), bringing the teachings of Ayn Rand to bear on issues that, heretofore, had not welcomed philosophy’s presence within their realms.
Leonard Peikoff has accomplished this, often doing so in the teeth of great adversity, because of his intellectual honesty and his passionate belief that the message he had been entrusted with safeguarding was vitally and historically important.

Peikoff considered two aspects of war which have to be morally evaluated: the reason for war, and the manner in which it is conducted — the "why" and the "how" of war, the end and the means.
Peikoff contrasts the Christian idea of self-sacrifice (with the corresponding rejection of self-defence — "turn the other cheek" etc) with the objectivist advocacy of self-defence (which includes the defence of one’s own citizens abroad and their property).
Peikoff neatly summarises his previous criticisms of the Iraq war by saying "we fought a limited war, to altruistic ends, and the result is the chaos of a country conquered, but unsubdued, because the war was fought not in the name of self-defence, but of love".

Peikoff concludes his presentation of the Objectivist ethics with a chapter on happiness, which Ayn Rand held to be the "only moral purpose" of one's life (p.325).
Peikoff's uncritical acceptance of Rand, warts and all, makes one doubly aware of another serious flaw in the book, that Peikoff writes as if he were alone in the world.
Instead, Dr. Peikoff seems so overwhelmed by the marvellous inheritance which fell into his hands that he remains welded to the spot he was occupying when probate was granted in 1982.

Peikoff demonstrates how the philosophical principles held by the vast majority of Germans at the time, led to Nazism.
In the final chapters of "Practice", Peikoff examines modern American intellectuals, and proves that the vast majority of them advocate the same principles of irrationalism, altruism, and collectivism which were fully put into practice in Nazi Germany.
Peikoff explains that America is the only country in the world created by an idea - individual rights, and how this idea is the anti-thesis of the ideas preached by modern American intellectuals, and Nazis.

Peikoff explains the role of philosophy as an integrating science, necessary to organize the complex set of concepts we already have as adults, and then dives into fundamentals: the all-important axioms.
Peikoff then moves into an area where there is less originality, because these issues have been treated at greater length in the Objectivist corpus: ethics and political theory.
In fact the two are complementary: Peikoff is broader and more sweeping--more "forest-oriented"--while Kelley is more intense, detailed and "tree-oriented." Peikoff covers the purely philosophical aspects of volition more broadly, for example, but Kelley devotes a whole 90-minute lecture to material Peikoff skips, including the scientific question of how volition is possible biologically.

 Peikoff's Genocidal Campaign
On September 10, 2001, Leonard Peikoff, Ayn Rand’s handpicked intellectual heir and the executor of her estate, had reached new depths of insignificance.
Peikoff commences his essay by accusing Truman and Eisenhower of surrendering “the West’s property rights in oil, although that oil rightfully belonged to those in the West whose science, technology, and capital made its discovery and use possible.” This surrender, Peikoff avers, occurred for “philosophical” reasons.
Peikoff, deriving all his intellectual inspiration from the corrupted sources of Rand’s quasi-leftist view of human nature, is not fit to give advice on any important question of social policy.
