  Leonid Kadeniuk - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Leonid Kostyantynovych Kadenyuk (Ukrainian: Леонід Костянтинович Каденюк), born 28 January 1951 in Klishkivtsi, Chernivetska oblast of the Ukrainian SSR) is the first and as of 2005 the only astronaut of independent Ukraine.
After the flight, Leonid Kadeniuk continued his Ukrainian space program career in the NKAU.
In the 2002 parliamentary election, he was elected to the Verkhovna Rada in the list of pro-Kuchma United Ukraine Bloc.

They met and spoke to local, retired Ukrainians, they answered questions from President Leonid Kuchma about their stay, they participated in an Education Summit, and they were asked countless questions about their thoughts and feelings on the launch and the experiments.
Kadenyuk became the first Ukrainian astronaut aboard a U.S. space shuttle; on the ground students from high schools all across Ukraine looked on and also became a part of history.

When the shuttle was launched on November 19, Col. Kadenyuk's wife, Vera, 14-year-old son, Dimitri, two brothers, a niece and a nephew were on hand to watch him fly in to space.
Kadenyuk's primary task was to tend to the Collaborative Ukrainian Experiment (CUE), a group of three plant experiments.

Doi was selected by NASDA in 1985 and participated in training as a backup candidate for a Japanese Spacelab mission prior to being named to the 1995 class.
Kadenyuk was selected as a Russian cosmonaut in 1976.
He will undergo the same training as Kadenyuk and will be ready to serve on the mission crew if necessary.
