On Nov. 3, 1901, Leopold was born to Prince Albert and Princess Elisabeth, Duchess of Bavaria.
Leopold, accompanied by a number of his cabinet ministers, was urged to follow the example of Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands and to establish a government-in-exile.
Leopold III was born in Brussels as Prince Leopold of Belgium, Prince of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Duke of Saxony, and succeeded to the throne of Belgium on February 23, 1934 on the death of his father, King Albert I of Belgium.
