Archduke Leopold V (Graz, October 9, 1586 – September 13, 1632 in Schwaz, Tirol) was the son of Archduke Charles II, the brother of Emperor Ferdinand II, father of Ferdinand Charles of the Tyrol, Bishop of Passau and Strasbourg (until 1625) and Regent of Tyrol.
From 1609 onwards he fought with his mercenaries in the Julian Dispute of Inheritance against Maximilian III in Tyrol, and 1611 for Rudolf II in Bohemia.
In 1619, he became governor of Tyrol and Further Austria, where he attained the position of a sovereign from 1623 to 1630.

According to legend, Duke Leopold V. of Austria (1157-1194) was involved in a fierce battle during the Crusades.

Leopold was the son of Henry II Jasomirgott and his Byzantine wife Theodora Comnena.
In 1172 he married Helena, daughter of King Geza II of Hungary, and their sons were Frederick I and Leopold VI.

The story goes that one of the early rulers of Austria wore a white tunic in battle one day, and the battle was so bloody that the entire tunic was bloodstained by the end of the fighting.
Duke Leopold V was supposedly granted these arms by King Henry VI, based on the battle-bloodied tunic of the duke, which had remained white only where covered by his wide belt.
Andrew Wheatcroft (1995) "The Habsburgs - Embodying Empire" reported that Duke Leopold V of Austria (referred to in one source as "Leopold Heldenthum") was of the Babenberg dynasty.

The allies occupied Austria after the Second World War until it became fully independent in 1955, on the condition that it remained neutral.
Once the center of power for the large Austro-Hungarian Empire, Austria was reduced to a small republic after its defeat in World War I. Following annexation by Nazi Germany in 1938 and subsequent occupation by the victorious Allies, Austria's 1955 State Treaty declared the country "permanently neutral" as a condition of Soviet military withdrawal.

The Emperor Leopold I of Austria promulgated the imperial decree of foundation in 1677, and it was in the same year that Pope Innocent XI granted the new university the customary rights and privileges.

The history of the Graz penny, and thus of an individual currency for the land of Styria, begins in 1186 with the Georgenberger Handfeste (Georgenberg Document), in which the last duke of the Traungau family, Otakar IV, bequeathed his lands to the Babenberg duke Leopold V of Austria.
When Otakar died in 1192, the Duchy of Styria passed to the Babenbergs and thus was linked with Austria.
Minting in Graz was begun by Duke Leopold VI most likely around 1215, following the model of Friesach.

When it was too obvious US planes were on their way to Kuwait, not Afghanistan, or US Stealth bombers tried to secretly sneak over in the radar shadow of an American tank aircraft those planes were incercepted and sent back.
