Leopold Vietoris (June 4, 1891 - April 9, 2002) was in his time believed to have been oldest living mathematician and oldest living Austrian man. He lived to be 110 years and 309 days old.
He was known for his contributions to topology and other fields of mathematics and for being a keen alpinist.
Vietoris was also known for his work with space subsets[?] and was deeply interested in mathematical history as well.

Leopold Vietoris, born on the 4th of June 1891, celebrates, along with the whole University of Innsbruck, his 110th birthday.
On the occasion of the 110th birthday of Vietoris, the Institute for Mathematics is hosting a press conference with the theme "The jubilarian and the direction of study of technical mathematics," at which the honoree himself, depending on his health at the time, will be present.
Leopold Vietoris was born on the 4th of June 1891 in Radkersburg.

The longest life among mathematicians, perhaps among all scientists, had Leopold Vietoris (1891/06/04-2002/04/09), who lived over a hundred and ten years.
According to Nebula Search Leopold Vietoris lived to 110 years and 309 days old and became the oldest known living Austrian man. In so doing he became a rare example of a supercentenarian already known for some other achievement.
Indeed, Vietoris had a great impact on general and algebraic topology, and on set theory.

Radon's sister-in-law lived in Innsbruck so he made a bold bid to move to that city.
He contacted Leopold Vietoris, the only mathematician left there since all the others had been drafted into the military.
Receiving an invitation from Vietoris, Radon and his family made the tortuous journey through war-torn Europe and arrived in Innsbruck after many hardships.

Last year (2002) was the first time I read of someone dying above 110 who was known for something other than having lived a long time.
