Leopold himself did not live to see the beginning of the struggle; he died on the 1st of March 1792, the day fixed by the Legislative Assembly as that on which the question of peace or war was to be decided.
Leopold, therefore, who made his debut on the European stage as the executor of the ban of the Empire against the insurgent Ligeois, was free to pose as the champion of order against the Revolution, without needing to fear the resentment of his subjects.
Leopold, then, reverted to the traditional Habsburg methods; the old supremacy of the Church, regarded as the one effective bond of empire, was restored; and the Einheitsstaal was once more resolved into its elements, with the old machinery of diets and estates, and the old abuses.

 Carinthia and Styria
Styria was a part of the old Carinthia, which became a separate margraviate during the tenth century as the "Carinthian Mark".
A large immigration of German settlers led to the assimilation of the original Slavic population in Carinthia, which 1335 became a part of the Habsburg dynasty's lands and thereafter was linked with Styria and Carniola during the repeated divisions of the Habsburg lands.
But from 1619 have Styria always been united with Austria, although the southern part was ceded to Yugoslavia after the First World War and id today a part of Slovenia.

The history of the Graz penny, and thus of an individual currency for the land of Styria, begins in 1186 with the Georgenberger Handfeste (Georgenberg Document), in which the last duke of the Traungau family, Otakar IV, bequeathed his lands to the Babenberg duke Leopold V of Austria.
When Otakar died in 1192, the Duchy of Styria passed to the Babenbergs and thus was linked with Austria.
This is among the earliest evidence for the use of the local language on coins in the southern German area.

Nevertheless, a plethora of factual errors suggest that the script writer(s) either misread the Styria volume's generally reliable text or supplemented it with less scholarly sources.
Nor are the maps that appear in the Styria volume -- and reappear in the film -- particularly accurate.
