Leotis Martin (March 10, 1939–November 20, 1998) was an American boxer best known for his victory over former heavyweight champion Sonny Liston.
Martin was a good puncher and a fairly skilled heavyweight who fought from 1962 to 1969.
Martin appeared to be back in contention for a title shot when he dropped a decision to California heavyweight Henry Clark.

As for Leotis Martin, he may have been hovering just inside the top 10 also, as in the year before facing Liston he had beaten Karl Mildenberger, Thad Spencer and Alvin Lewis, not bad wins.
His jab was still an effective weapon and he was leading the fight on all 3 cards having dropped Martin with a single solid left hook in the 4th.

And Liston was stopped by Ali two times but continued to fight eventually being knocked out by the ever famous Leotis Martin.

In 1963, Las Vegas got its first world heavyweight title fight when Sonny Liston and Floyd Patterson met in a rematch of Liston's first round knockout the year before.
It wasn't until 1969 when Kirk Kerkorian's new International Hotel hosted a fight in the showroom between Liston and Leotis Martin that big time boxing was held at a hotel.

Ezzard Charles was a master boxer with a stinging punch..I believe he would stop Leotis in the later rounds with Martin in no position to continue due to taking too much punishment and severe bruises and cuts..
Martin on the other hand defeated Sonny Liston even if Sonny was over the hill, that is still a worthy acomplishment.
