Lepidium meyenii - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lepidium meyenii or maca is an herbaceous biennial plant or annual plant (some sources say a perennial plant) native to the high Andes of Peru.
It is grown for its fleshy hypocotyl (actually a fused hypocotyl and taproot), which is used as a root vegetable and a medicinal herb.
The edible leaves of Lepidium meyenii can be used as a leaf vegetable, cooked or raw in salads, and are similar to those of its close relatives Lepidium sativum (garden cress) and Lepidium campestre (field pepperweed).
