Ler LaLonde is one of if not the most underrated guitarists of all time (although he doesn't think much of his own playing), seriously, that dude can rip, I think he's overshadowed by Les a bit (Les is amazing too), but seriously, Ler is awesome.
Ler doesn't use effects to compliment, and suit the mood of, the song; he's doing it to hide his sloppy technical skills.

While Claypool's dizzying, violently percussive textures are still on display, Lalonde's guitar has a distinct, forceful presence, from the call and response that kicks off "Professor Nutbutter's House of Treats," to the stinging Kimg Crimonesque phrashing of "On The Tweek Again." This new balance is not accidental.

Claypool recruited metal guitarist Lalonde and eclectic drummer Tim Alexander, and Primus soon gained even greater popularity by dint of their live concerts.
Their most productive period was from 1990 to 1994, during which they released three albums, an EP, five music videos, a home video, and between tours still found time to headline Lollapallooza, contribute music to ''Beavis and Butthead'', and appear in ''Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey''.

 PRIMUS BIOGRAPHY
Fronted by bassist-vocalist Les Claypool, who can produce thousands of bizarre tones on his instrument and almost as many cartoonish characters with his voice, Primus has journeyed from the underground to the headlining spot at the 1993 Lollapalooza music festival, arguably the nation's most important alternative rock tour.
The group was two-thirds new, but LaLonde undertook the arduous task of learning all of Huth's parts and then participating in a live recording that became the first Primus album, Suck on This.
Long before LaLonde and Alexander joined the band, Claypool explained to Rolling Stone, the group's fans had begun chanting "You Suck" as an honorific at their shows.
