As a radio announcer, Les worked with the station's popular groups and was also in demand as an emcee at their many live appearances.
Les became one of radio's top personalities before turning to the new medium of television in 1958.
In 2003, Les and Bill were honored with lifetime achievement awards from the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA), for their work on Willy and Floyd.

Les Lye has said that he suggested to YCDTOTV co-creator Roger Price that Moose's sister could replace Moose herself on the show once Moose got too old, because she looked quite a bit like her older sister, but Price immediately nixed the idea.

As a radio announcer, Les worked with the station's popular groups, including Mac Beattie and The Ottawa Valley Melodiers and the Happy Wanderers, and was also in demand as an MC at their many live appearances.
Les became the MC and had creative responsibilities for Shor Gas Barn Dance, where he worked with the many guests and continued to make appearances with the host band, the Happy Wanderers.

Most of my old friends of that latter ilk are especially obscure and hard to understand for anyone who isn’t me. Maybe two people know why I always mispronounce “bagel” as BAG-L — I giggle inwardly every single time, everyone else just gives me funny looks.
Nobody recognizes me mimicking Les Lye’s various accents from You Can’t Do That On Television anymore.
I don’t know anyone who even knows who Susan Glaspell is. And then there’s the horribly spiderwebbed collection of influences I call The Kate Connection, which despite being the thread connecting so many of the highest deities in the Patrickville Pantheon of influences I’ve never been able to clearly explain to anyone.
