In 1978, his Les Soeurs Brontë (The Brontë Sisters) was distinguished by the fact it comprised the sole dramatic outing of literary theorist Roland Barthes in the role of William Thackeray.

 André Téchiné
In LES VOLEURS, Téchiné deftly explores the Aeschylean territory of the love-in-hate and hate-in-love paradoxes inherent in the family relationships and amorous entanglements.
Roland Barthes, one of the main craftsmen and spokesmen of this vogue (he agreed to play Thackeray in LES SOEURS BRONTË), wrote of SOUVENIRS D'EN FRANCE: "André Téchiné was congratulated for bringing a new style of fiction to the movie screen.
Yes, the film has something of the novel, not in terms of narrative genre or psychological pathos, but in terms of the need for language." For Téchiné, a plot must not unfold in a straight line, but in a juxtaposition of strong sequences.

However, it was 1993's Les Roseaux Sauvages (also known as Wild Reeds) that earned her international attention.
While most of the films Elodie appeared in after Les Roseaux Sauvages were well received by the French critics and public alike, it was not until 1999 that U.S. audiences saw Elodie again upon the release of writer/director Erick Zonca's debut film The Dreamlife of Angels.
She is also working on Le Petit poucet with Romane Bohringer and Catherine Deneuve.

Chosen by Oliver Stone for his 1986 Oscar-winning Platoon and by André Téchiné for his 1994 Cesar-winning Les Roseaux Sauvages (The Wild Reeds), Barber’s music provides an elemental thread in the emotional web of these autobiographical films, connecting the characters, the director, and the audience.
Whether serving as a distancing tool, a form of commentary, or a pathway into a character’s mind, whether part of the slowly building waves of despair in Platoon or the fleeting connection of moments in Les Roseaux Sauvages, Barber’s music intensifies the moral ambiguity of war and of life itself.
For while surface differences abound, both "coming of age" films deal with the effects of war on the individual and resonate with the conception of identity as an unending process of alliance formation, always constructed through difference, in a world in which boundary lines are seldom as clear-cut as we’d like.

Les roseaux sauvages (English title: The Wild Reeds) is a 1994 movie by French director André Téchiné about an unusual ménage à trois between French youths at the height of the Algerian War.
Stéphane Rideau went on to play a somewhat similar (and even more gay) character six years later in Sebastien Lifshitz's Presque rien.
At the 1995 César awards, Les Roseaux Sauvages won Best Film, Best Director (André Téchiné), Most Promising Young Actress (Élodie Bouchez) and Best Original Screenplay.

It in fact was to set a new formal mold for the films to come - Rendezvous (1985), Le lieu du crime (1986), with Deneuve, Les innocents (1987), which renovated the model of classical tragedy, and the coming-of-age drama, J'embrasse pas (1991).
Made for the television miniseries Tous les garçons et les filles de leur âge, Téchiné's 13th feature returned to director's teenage years (the early sixties).
Shot with two cameras (a habit started in La matiouette), Les roseaux sauvages won the Louis Delluc Prize and the Best Film César in 1994.

Elodie Bouchez   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
Her feature debut led to a good role in Christine Lipinska's "Le Cahier vole" (1992), after which her career in essence stalled until Andre Techine's "Les Roseaux sauvages/Wild Reeds" (1994) vaulted her to the front ranks of French actresses.
Also shown at Cannes that year was Siegfried's "Louise (Take 2)", in which she played another free spirit, this time drawn to the risks of petty crime until her arrest makes her realize she is not who she is pretending to be.
She starred opposite Jean-Marc Barr in Didier Le Pecheur's controversial, fact-based "J'aimerais pas crever un dimanche" (also 1998) playing a presumed deceased woman whom a necrophilic mortician has sex with only to discover she is not dead and the pair begin a relationship.
