Leshon Hara is because of the Pain it causes--NO!
But leshon hara is not prohibited because of the pain it causes.

It is possible that the Be'er Rechovot is right and Rashi is in error 'for we have found that even the early Amoraim erred in decisions on dinim and afterwards reversed themselves' (Sefer Chafetz Chaim, (19th cent.) Hil.
Leshon Hara 6:8 in addendum) but before accepting such a conclusion one should first check carefully.
First one must note that Rashi does not write that the Dagesh in the Shin indicates the dropping of the middle Mem; this is something that the Be'er Rechovot reads into Rashi (R' E. Mizrachi does similarly).

Let us look briefly at the Mitzvah that is perhaps most commonly ignored: “Mitzvat Isur Leshon Hara” – forbidding the “Evil Tongue”, or in it’s most common shape, slandering.
Black is showing in choosing his ties (trying to win her attention to the splendid taste he is showing in his choice of ties…).
Hebrew: “Ein da'var ka'she meel'shon ha'ra she'ho're'get shlo'sha”.

We know the 2 items that atone for Leshon Hara are the Me'il and the Ketoret (incense) - (Yalkut Shimoni - Shemot:380).
Leshon Hara is also a product of Sin'at Hinam - the reason for our current exile.
Let's hope that the recent discovery of the Ketoret and very recent production of the Me'il will be a Kappara for all of Kelal Yisrael, and we should merit the building of the third Beit Hamikdash, Bimhera Veyamenu.

I really battle knowing what lashon hara is and what isn't.
Regarding your specific question in most cases it is not necessary to mention a specific name and this is not lashon hara.
In any case, she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother, and she became my wife.

But the sin of lashon hara > > (speaking the truth) is really one of causing the person pain; dead > > people don't feel pain (see Brachot 19a).
Proof: the Mordechai brings this as a cherem which was > instituted, not as ikar hadin of hilchot lashon hara.
It seems to me that this thread has not focused enough on the concept of INTENTION/COGNITION DOEG HAADOMI was guilty of RECHILUTH because he KNEW that when he told Saul that the Priests of NOV gave Saul's enemy David food that Saul would be angry at Nov (and grateful to Doeg).

Leshon Hara (“a tongue of evil”) is perhaps one of the most pervasive evils within our society.
The Torah teaches us that by speaking ill of another person we are ostracized by the community and also separated from G-d.
At minimum, three people are affected by Leshon Hara.

 The Chafetz Chaim
It is a compilation of the laws concerning leshon hara-spreading gossip and slander, a grave offense that is often ignored.
Thanks to the Chafetz Chaim's writings, a growing awarness has emerged of the harmful effects and the seriousness of leshon hara.
A major achievement was his work Mishnah Berurah, a comprehensive commentary on the Orach Chaim section of the Shulcan Aruch, which deals with the general laws of daily conduct, such as prayers, tefillin, blessings, Shabbat, and Festivals.

It should rest on the recognition that many well-intentioned people, lovers of Judaism and the Jewish people, will arrive at sharply divergent positions.
While acknowledging these differences, we should nonetheless make a commitment to avoid demonization, personal attacks and leshon hara (evil speech) toward our opponents.
Community leaders, opinion makers and all concerned Jews should sign on to a code of civility as a meaningful indicator of Jewish unity.

Murder is not the only sin that has such far-reaching impact.
A few of the other sins that affect individuals in a similar way are adultery, leshon hara (Slander), theft, and bearing false witness.
In fact, any sin that occurs between two or more individuals has the potential to spread beyond the individuals directly involved with the sin.

you wouldn't say, in our modern society, everyone speaks lashon hara.
As you said yourself, the fact that almost everybody is speaking Leshon Hara, is not an excuse, but it is also not a reason to escape from social life.
Clearly, without social life we wouldn't even have any challenge of Leshon Hara, but still there is no Isur on being involved in the society.

It is interesting, he notes, that in his Chafetz Chayim, Rabbi Yisrael Meir HaKohen of Radin zt”l has difficulty in finding an instance where it is forbidden to tell leshon hara’ about a child.
He finally finds a complicated situation of an orphan living with others, about whom we mustn’t tell lashon hara’, lest he be driven away.
Childish mischief comes and goes, their attributes change, such that the Chafetz Chayim saw no reason to forbid lashon hara’ about children except in the said instance (see Shvilei Chayim, that one must not relate things about a minor that clearly disgrace him).

This is an understandable position for atheist materialists, but I have never understood why anyone who believes in an Omnipotent G-d and that supernatural phenomena have occurred in apparent violation of natural law numerous times in history would insist on uniformitarianism during the actual creation process.
I know of one Orthodox rabbi (he has a website teaching this so it's not leshon hara`) who believes in theistic evolution but also that the earth is hollow and that's where the demons live.
Now may I ask why the same pressure to conform to uniformitarian science in the process of Creation doesn't defer to that same science on the nature of the inside of the earth?
