  Lesley Gore
Lesley Gore had became the standard bearer for teenage angst and her next releases "She's A Fool" and "You Don't Own Me", united teenage girls around the world with someone who seemed to be going through the same things they were.
Lesley appeared on the legendary T.A.M.I. Show alongside the Rolling Stones, James Brown, and Smokey Robinson, but she seemed out of place along side these heavyweights and after 1964 her star plummeted rapidly.
Lesley's first two hits are remembered the most, but much of her subsequent material was both more mature (or, perhaps more accurately, less immature) and stronger.

Lesley has been writing and co-writing songs since 1964, when she composed "Leave Me Alone" all by herself on the way to a gig.
Looking back, it's undeniable that Lesley Gore's dead seriousness was eminently suited to early '60s psychodrama, yet it's equally clear there was no place for her brand of dynamism amongst the wimp balladeers of the past decade.
Lesley Gore is celebrated for having originated such great oldies of female pop as "It's My Party" and "You Don't Own Me." Now we're awaiting her new solo LP and a collaboration with Lou "Lightning Strikes" Christie, both due out on the Manhattan label soon.

I saw Lesley Gore described as a "one-hit wonder," which certainly struck a wrong chord with me. While she hit #1 with her very first release "It's My Party" in 1963, she was had a lot more hits even if none of them made it all the way to the top.
The result is that Gore was as commercially successful a female solo singer as there was on the face of the planet during this period.
This is a very good Lesley Gore hit collection given the limited number of tracks, but there are better out there to be found, so take that into account when deciding if this is the one you want to get it.
