		Martins translations of Ohlenschlagers dramas, Correggio (1854) and Aladdin, or the Honderful Lamp (1857), widened the fame of the Danish poet in England.
		Martin wrote a memoir of his friend Aytoun in 1867, and while engaged upon thiswork he was requested by Queen Victoria, to whom he was introduced by his friend Sir Arthur Helps, to undertake the Life of His Royal Highness the Prince Consort.
		Martins Life of Lord Lyndhurst, based upon papers furnished by the family, was published in 1883.

		Leslie Harold Martin was born on 21 December 1900 at Footscray, in Melbourne, the son of Henry Richard and Ettie Emily Martin (née Tutty).
		Martin's work at that time was clearly held in high esteem and was referred to at length in definitive monographs.(12) In 1934, he won the coveted David Syme Research Prize, consisting of a medal and a significant sum of money.
