Leslie Stuart - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stuart was an active campaigner for intellectual property rights and called for tighter laws on both national and international copyright.
Stuart retained an income, provided by continued revivals and performances of the popular Florodora, and supplimented this by appearing in variety theatre, where he performed his most famous songs accompanying himself on the piano.
Stuart also acted as a concert impresario in the Manchester area for some time, presenting Paderewski in his first British appearances and opera's Fanny Moody in concert.

Leslie Stuart spent some of his earliest professional musical moments as a pianist at Manchester's Ship Inn and then, from the age of 14, as church organist for seven years at St John's Roman Catholic Cathedral in Salford and a further seven at the Church of the Holy Name in Manchester.
Stuart's earliest theatrical writing was done for the Manchester theatre, where he provided songs and incidental music in particular for the local pantomimes which boasted some of the biggest British names in their bills.
His daughter May Leslie Stuart appeared on the musical stage as Beauty in Pinkie and the Fairies (1909) and as a last-minute replacement for Ada Reeve as Lady Holyrood in the 1915 Florodora.

Florodora was Stuart's unparalleled success, and try as he could to repeat his successful recipe with this showstopper he never quite equalled the grade.
Stuart was largely self-taught one assumes for we are given little insight into where he learnt all his musical skills apart from tuition by a local piano teacher.
It is also a mystery why Stuart would only conduct the first Act of the show on a first night yet later with a different show would spend two months of its run in the pit.

A few minutes into the meeting, history of science professor Stuart Leslie, the new assistant dean of undergraduate studies, was eagerly helping the students devise better means to advertise the program's course offerings and ways to work with the Nitze School of Advanced International Studies and neighboring universities to offer more courses for the major.

Comedy Central: Movies - You Will Remember - Plot Summary
You Will Remember is based on the life of popular English composer Leslie Stuart (born Thomas Barrett in 1864), here played by Robert Morley.
The film traces Stuart's rise to fame after the publication of his first song, follows him through his glory days in the early 1900s, then recounts his fall from grace and his comeback in the British music halls of the 1920s, shortly before his death.
In true Hollywood "inventory" fashion, Stuart's hit tunes are duly cataloged and performed, including "Tell Me Pretty Maiden", "Floradora", "Sue", "Lily of Laguna" and "Dolly Daydream".
