The Lethal Weapon series is really a good group of action films, but part 4 doesn't really seem to take itself seriously.
Pesci is all the comic relief that a Lethal Weapon movie ever needed, and Rock is another substantial addition of comic relief that just isn't necessary.
Even though the 4th installment in the Lethal Weapon series is not nearly as good as any of the previous three, it still remains a quality action film, despite its many weaknesses.

An anti-submarine weapon developed by the Royal Navy during World War II, the Hedgehog was deployed on convoy escort warships such as destroyers to supplement the depth charge.
That is the propelling charge was part of the main weapon and worked against a rod (the spigot) set in the baseplate which fitted inside a tubular tail of the 'bomb'.
The weapon fires a salvo of 24 bombs in an arc, aimed to land in an circular or elliptical area about 100 feet (30 m) in diameter at a fixed point about 250 yards (230 m) directly ahead of the attacking ship.

As a strategic weapon, biological warfare is again militarily problematic, because it is difficult to prevent the attack from spreading, either to allies or to the attacker, and while an attack is taking effect, the opponent can undertake massive retaliation.
Diseases considered for weaponization, or known to be weaponized include anthrax, Ebola, Bubonic Plague, Cholera, Tularemia, Brucellosis, Q fever, Machupo, Coccidioides mycosis, Glanders, Melioidosis, Shigella, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Typhus, Psittacosis, Yellow Fever, Japanese B Encephalitis, Rift Valley Fever, and Smallpox.
Diseases such as wheat blast and rice blast were weaponized in aerial spray tanks and cluster bombs for delivery to enemy water sheds in agricultural regions to initiate epiphytotics (epidemics among plants).

LETHAL WEAPON 4 is just more of the same as the other three movies, but Donner has injected a couple of new ideas into the franchise, the countless funny one-liners of Chris Rock and the deadly Martial Arts of Jet Li as the evil, menacing exporter Wa Sing Ku.
Lethal Weapon 4 is the final and by far the best of the 4, which are all undoubtedly superb.
Lethal Weapon 4 is a pretty good rounder off to the end of the series, action, comedy, rehashed one liners aand all the other things that made the other 3 great are all present.

Despite critical lambasting I have to admit I enjoyed "Lethal Weapon 3," but heavy traces of formula were starting to shine through and stretching the series to a part 4 would be unnecessary.
But I was in for a surprise when Jet Li was oddly cast as one of the lead villains opposite "Lethal Weapon" alums Gibson, Glover, Peci, Russo, Kahan, and now Chris Rock (the latest smart-ass addition to a cast of characters that once took things seriously).
"Lethal Weapon 4" itself is drained of all that it the series once was.

Review: Lethal Weapon 4   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-08-20)
Given the expectations that constrain it, Lethal Weapon 4 is probably the best motion picture that could possibly result from another teaming of Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson) and Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover).
The plot, which is pretty thin, centers on Riggs and Murtaugh's first case after they have been promoted to captains (due to their propensity for destroying things, the police department couldn't purchase insurance until it got them off the street and behind a desk).
Lethal Weapon 4 is one of the summer of 1998's two lonely sequels (the other being Halloween - H20), and delivers just about what's expected from it -- characters who we know and like, the camaraderie we demand, and Richard Donner's obsessive, must-top-anything- I've-ever-done attitude towards action sequences.

And even though Mel Gibson said a while back he had no interest in doing another "Lethal Weapon" film, no matter how good the script was, he and Danny Glover are putting in as much effort as they always have, making the screen sizzle with their chemistry.
Of course, we still have to have the "Lethal Weapon" humour here, and the members of the trusted supporting cast are all back to enrich it, with Leo Getz (Pesci) thinking he's become a private investigator, and Lorna Cole (Rene Russo) pregnant, as is Murtaugh's daughter Rianne.
"Lethal Weapon 4" is not as good as the other three films in its series, borrowing their heart as a substitute for one of its own, and certainly without one outstandingly memorable line, which the others all had.

"Lethal Weapon 4" / a review from Christian Spotlight on the Movies
Lethal Weapon 4 is quite simply the most entertaining sequel in the series.
How it all adds up is really irrelevant, since the plot only serves as setup for what the audience really pays to see: witty banter between Riggs (Mel Gibson) and Murtaugh (Danny Glover), their humorous and touching relationships with their family, friends and co-workers, and their wild and crazy adventures along the way.
Lethal Weapon 4 is filled with several genuinely funny scenes, some surprisingly inventive action sequences, the best villain in the series in newcomer Jet Li, and some impressive karate choreography.

This is a sort of exception to that rule in that the major cast return for this installment as well as introducing a few new faces in Chris Rock and Jet Li (in one of his first Hollywood starring roles).
But what promises to be an exciting and action packed conclusion (?) to the Lethal Weapon series just degenerates into a buddy cop movie with a little family life thrown in for good measure.
One last thing is that it does smack somewhat of Rush Hour, which was released at almost the same time and comparisons do have to be made, and if so Lethal Weapon 4 would not come out on top.

The Lethal Weapon series was one of the most popular of the late '80's and early '90's, so when Warner Bros. started to run into financial trouble, they went to their proverbial cash cow.
Lethal Weapon 4 does have some good points, though.
Li wisely brought in noted HK director Corey Yuen to direct the martial arts sequences, which is a good thing, because Donner kept bitching that Li was moving too fast for the cameras and would have probably screwed them all up.

Lethal Weapon 4 - Lethal Weapon 4 (1998)
In the fourth and reportedly final film of the Lethal Weapon series, director Richard Donner reunites with Mel Gibson and Danny Glover, who reprise their roles as Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh for one last hurrah in a film that is decidedly better than the third and first chapters.
As always with the Lethal series, the plot is incredibly simple to follow: someone steals something, someone gets killed, and Murtaugh is reluctantly thrown into the mix while Riggs dives into the case with gleeful aplomb.

In Lethal Weapon 4 (Warner Bros.), about the only thing that's changed in the boys since Lethal Weapon 3 is that Riggs and Murtaugh have gotten older -- much older in the past six years -- just as the actors themselves have thickened in middle age.
Shouldn't they just cash out and discuss pension plans?) Murtaugh is about to become a grandfather, courtesy of his daughter's mouthy cop boyfriend (Chris Rock, providing some very funny stand-up riffs that have nothing whatever to do with the story but at least let his elders catch their breath between sprints).
Riggs and his fiery Lethal 3 sweetheart, internal- affairs officer Lorna Cole (great gal Rene Russo, still an inspired addition to the hormonal mix), have stayed together, and Lorna is pregnant.

The ads for "Lethal Weapon 4" tell us to "Celebrate the 4th on the 10th," and while that obviously refers to the numbered installment and the date it opens, it also makes one think of the 4th of July, a time for meeting old friends and having a knock down, drag out get together.
Having long abandoned the original "lethal weapon" plot device (of Riggs being a loose canon, which made the original rather unique), the filmmakers have thrown all caution to the wind and don't care about such "insignificant" details.
One almost gets the sense that he may be one half of the next "Lethal" team once Gibson and Glover turn in their guns and badges (which may be never if they keep getting paid so much to star in these films).
