All of this is very positive, especially when it is set against the incredible beauty of America's natural spaces, a landscape that is still more wild than cultivated, and despite the urban sprawl of certain cities a lot less built up than Europe.
It was not surprising, therefore, that in an unprecedented period of U.S. boom, terrorists struck at America in such a devastating way as we all witnessed on September 11, 2001.
There is a wonderful coming together of the American people as they face the current crisis, but there is also a blind patriotism that stands behind our leaders without question, making it hard for the true patriot to raise his or her voice.

America was an ardent supporter in the 1980’s while he was fighting Iran… and killing Iraqis.
These are totems which America holds as "evil." If someone says the word "dictator" in reference to a country, the American people instantly believe they are warmongering, power hungry, depraved men who torture others for their own amusement.
Why would America, the superpower of the world, go to such lengths and incur so much loss of blood and money to damage Iraq, a comparatively small country that was never a threat and was never likely to be one.

Cooke then emigrated to the United States in 1937, and asked the BBC to let him do the same thing in reverse.
Eventually he succeeded, and 'Letter from America' is now the longest running radio broadcast in human history.
When Cooke was awarded an honorary knighthood in 1973, the Queen is reputed to have expressed bewildered admiration at his ability to sit down, week after week, and communicate so directly with his audience.
