		Leucistic animals lack all colour in their skin, fur, or feathers; but generally have normally coloured eyes.
		While albinism results in an animal lacking the normal melanin (and occasionally other) pigment cells, leucistic animals retain the cells; but lack an enzyme needed to activate the pigment.
		Another key difference is that leucisim can also be localized and incomplete, affecting only part of the animal (whereas albinism, anerythrism, and axanthism always affects the entire animal); with irregular patches of white on an animal that otherwise has normal colouring and patterning.

		Leucistic means that the colouration is mainly pure white and not the usual reds and fls of a 'normal' kite.

		Leucistism differs from albinism in that pigment is not entirely absent - in most cases it is retained in the eyes.
		I am hoping to continue the bloodline of these endangered Leucistic Alligators in much the same way, by breeding them with American Alligators, and hoping the third generation offspring are Leucisitic.

		It seems to me like the word "leucistic" is simply used to describe a certain type of dragon, but it isn't 100% correct.

		The most obvious name was 'leucistic,' but unfortunately this had already been misused for the patternless (leucistic) leopard gecko.
		During this same season, to my amazement, we had accidentally produced a bright yellow colored Blizzard Lizard X Patternless (leucistic) Gecko, which showed both the traits from of the Blizzard Lizard and the Patternless (leucistic) from the original colony.
		This genetic cross carries the genes from the original white female, which was bred to a Patternless (leucistic) male.

		While searching for the juv SAGU yesterday afternoon, I spotted what appeared to be a leucistic grebe among a large flock of EAGRs, north of the western bridge on the AIC and well offshore.
		One would assume this bird was an EAGR too, but remember that KP and I found a leucistic HOGR at FBWMA in late Aug. Those with scopes should look for it and try to make a positive ID.
		There were literally thousands of migratory birds (ducks, geese, gulls, peep and probably WIPHs) north of the eastern bridge.

		What is being called Leucistic in bearded dragons is not leucistic (true leucistics do not "grow out of" a pattern or colour and become white, they are white from day 1) and it is not a proven recessive.
		They're not leucistic, which is why they were renamed "Patternless" (although some still call them leucistic).
		Blizzards are about the closest thing to a Leucistic in leopard geckos, but again, as the name had already been incorrectly used, and blizzards do display colour as a baby (even though as adults they can be pure white) they didn't/couldn't apply the name leucistic correctly.
