It is a taller plant than Leucojum vernum, growing to around 60 cm (2 ft), but its flowers are smaller and are carried in an umbel of between three and seven.

Dry bulbs of Leucojum vernum should be planted around 8 – 10cm (3 – 4in) deep in autumn.

Leucojum, however has six petals which are equal in length.
Another distinguishing feature of Leucojum is its yellow-green spots at the tips of the petals.
