Katherine Waselkov - UF Journal of Undergraduate Research Scholar Profile   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-11)
I intend to conduct a morphological analysis to construct the hypotheses of a phylogenetic relationship among the species of the genus Leucothoë, a basal member of the tribe Gaultherieae of the family Ericaceae, the blueberry family.
Previous research based on morphology and DNA has suggested that this genus is not monophyletic (does not contain all the evolutionary descendants of its common ancestor).
Leucothoë will be analyzed along with its relative Chamaedaphne and representative species of the well-defined ‘wintergreen’ clade, and outgroups will include selected species of Vaccinieae.
