Lew Brown (December 10, 1893 - February 5, 1958) was a lyricist for popular songs in the United States.
Brown was born as Louis Brownstein in Odessa, Russia.
Brown wrote lyrics for many of the top Tin Pan Alley songwriters of the day, including Albert Von Tilzer, Con Conrad, and Harold Arlen.

In 1925, Brown and Henderson were joined by lyricist Buddy De Sylva, creating one of the most influential and popular songwriting and publishing teams in Tin Pan Alley.
With De Sylva and Brown collaborating on the lyrics, and Henderson writing the music, the threesome contributed songs to several Broadway shows including such as George White’s Scandals of 1925 and 1926 which featured the songs "The Birth of the Blues", "Black Bottom", and "Lucky Day".
Lew Brown died two years after the release on February 5, 1958 in New York City.

His father died when Brown was 15, his mother moved the family to her native Kentucky and Brown immediately went to work for a local newspaper.
Brown also is credited as the force behind the construction of the Million Dollar Pier -- after the hurricane of 1921 washed away the old pier -- and of founding the first city hospital, now Bayfront Medical Center.

Once, when Brown was 15 years old and suffering from the Mumps (a childhood disease), an even younger friend lent him a guitar.
At one point, a teacher did indeed try to teach him to read music, but Brown found the subject too boring, and much preferred to make music his own way, and his way has turned out to be the right way.
Working with Crewe, Brown composed his first Million-Seller, "Sock It To Me Baby", which was a huge hit for the group 'Mitch Ryder and The Detroit Wheels.' Following that, Raymond Bloodworth and Brown wrote "C'mon Marianne" which was one of 'The Four Seasons' greatest hits.
