Lew Rockwell - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rockwell is the founder and President of the Ludwig von Mises Institute in Auburn, Alabama, Vice President of the Center for Libertarian Studies in Burlingame, California, and publisher of the politicial weblog, LewRockwell.com.
Rockwell was closely associated with his teacher and colleague Murray Rothbard until Rothbard's death in 1995, and like Rothbard in his later years his political ideology combines an anarcho-capitalist form of paleolibertarianism with cultural conservatism and the Austrian School of economics.
Rockwell's opposition [1] [2] to the war in Iraq has led to criticism from the neoconservative movement.

ROCKWELL: The 30's was of course a terrible time, brought about as a result of Federal Reserve inflations during the 1920's, and then the rotten Hoover Administration, which actually was the first part of the New Deal.
ROCKWELL: Â…written a paper arguing that the two parties have switched positions ideologically, and that the Republican Party is, despite rhetoric, is today the party of big government, and the Democrats are the party of lesser government.

Birdman Bryant: Lew Rockwell: A Man With Environ-Mental Problems   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-12)
Rockwell's basic problem is that, as the scion of a transition time between the age of religion and the age of science, he has positioned himself as a mugwump, with his mug on one side of the fence and his wump on the other.
To be specific, Rockwell is happy to accept the technological advances of science, but not the compelling evidence adduced by that same science that man is the product of a mechanistic evolutionary process, or that he is but a speck of dust on an isolated chunk of rock in a universe of incomprehensible size.
But even as Rockwell fills the air with declarations that man is the highest animal while conveniently ignoring that it is man who does the classifying, he remains blind to the fact that his basically selfish and human-centered environmental philosophy may actually be self-defeating.

Lew is welcome to enjoy the fruits of his well-earned labors.
What bothers me about Lew Rockwell is that he falsely claims to have Mises' wife's official signed approval for his organization (stuck in a drawer somewhere), when in fact he has no such document.

Rockwell was still stuck on that theme one year later, even going so far as to endorse the caricature of America as the avatar of the Evil Empire.
Rockwell's co-contributors are even more forthright about their contempt for the U.S., and the American-led war in Iraq has afforded them the occasion to exercise their hostility.

I just want to make it clear that had Lew Rockwell taken a little more time in considering his comments, he'd realize how dumb they sound from the standpoint of someone who values individual rights and the free market and dislikes nearly every form of state intrusion in our lives (as he posits himself).
