Friends of Lewes - Paper on Sustainable Transport   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
A paper to be presented by the Friends of Lewes at a meeting organised by Lewes District Council for Lewes Transport and Environment Study: Working Group, "to hear a range of ideas from different parties on how a sustainable transport system could be developed in Lewes".
Eastgate Street is the principal gateway into Lewes for road transport and would appear to be the logical place to introduce incoming traffic to the green-core and to condition it to slower speed limits than those appropriate for less restricted roads.
The advantage of the incremental approach to enhancement of Lewes streets is that it is much less costly than more comprehensive schemes and individual lengths of road can be enhanced as funds become available and as resurfacing works would in any event become necessary.
