The Lewis and Clark Bridge is a cantilever bridge that spans the Columbia River between Longview, Washington and Rainier, Oregon.
The state of Washington purchased the bridge in 1947 and the tolls were removed in 1965 after the bridge was paid for.
In 1980 the bridge was rededicated as the Lewis and Clark Bridge in honor of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

Clark may have exaggerated when he noted that the mosquitoes were as big as house flies.
Clark was told about a place high up this river where "a Creek Coms in which passes thro Clifts of red rock which the Indians make pipes of, and when the different nations Meet at those queries all is piece." This is now known as Pipestone National Monument, located in southwestern Minnesota.
Clark wrote, "Capt Lewis and my Self walked up to the top which forms a Cone and is about 70 feet higher than the high lands around it." Nearby they "discovered a Village of an annamale the french Call the Prarie Dog...the Village of those animals Covs.

The majority of the existing bridge deck was replaced with 103 precast concrete deck panels made of 120 lb/cu ft lightweight concrete with a modified concrete overlay supported by two longitudinal steel stringers with intermediate transverse stringers.
Use of prefabrication allowed the bridge to remain open for normal weekday operation, particularly important for traffic to and from the Port of Longview.
Since these detours were so long and the bridge was closed all night for each panel placement, a helicopter with a landing pad was provided on the south side of the river.

Their proposal is the development of the BLM land adjacent to the Lewis and Clark bridge on the south side of the Missouri River off Highway 13, 2-1/2 miles east of Wolf Point.
Clark Whitehead is on the Tourism Advisory Council and is the chair for coordinating Lewis and Clark Bicentennial activities.
Oregon has little land associated with the Lewis and Clark Trail and will concentrate their efforts in working with other agencies and organizations in brochures, community events, etc. Idaho, on the other hand, like Montana, has a considerable part of the trail with numerous opportunities for internal and partnership efforts.
