Of the 2.6 miles (4.2km) of new line to Lewisham, approximately 0.7 miles (1.1km) is in bored tunnel, a short section in cut and cover tunnel, one mile (1.7km) at near ground level and half a mile (800m) on viaduct.
The Lewisham extension gives DLR a chance to take a share of the benefits of the regeneration of the area south of the River Thames, put into the international spotlight by the £700 million Millennium Dome tourist attraction.
