 Lexicography, lexicology, lexicon theory
Lexicology, on the other hand, is the branch of descriptive linguistics concerned with the linguistic theory and methodology for describing lexical information, often focussing specifically on issues of meaning.
The twin fields of terminology and terminography are industrially and commercially important disciplines which are related to lexicology and lexicography, and are concerned with the identification and construction of technical terms in relation to the real world of technical artefacts.
Lexicon theory, in contrast to both lexicology and lexicography, is the study of the universal, in particular formal properties of lexica, from the points of view of theoretical linguistics, general knowledge representation languages in artificial intelligence, lexicon construction (cf.

 Lexicology
Lexicology is basically understood as the study of lexis (vocabulary or stock of words of a language).
We have a narrow concept of lexicology: it's a branch of linguistics concerned with the meaning and use of words.
The two senses are clearly related by the concepts of an opening from the interior of some solid mass to the outside, and of a place of issue at the end of some long narrow channel.

Broden : The Evolution of French Linguistics After the War: A. J. Greimas's Conversion to 'Saussurism'
Articulated in the fifties, the endeavor represents an intermediate stage between his first scholarship and the structural semantics he was to develop in the sixties, and appeared at the same time as the great debates that were to transform linguistics and the human sciences.
After his dissertation, Greimas continued his quest for new methods in lexicology which, while enhancing the data on the history of words, would also make it possible to study the vocabulary of a given cultural moment as a synthetic whole, and to identify its semantic and lexical architectures.
By 1956 he was arguing the case of Saussurism in lexicology and outlining an interdisciplinary structural semiology, by 1959 advancing a program for the machine-assisted study of French, and in the '60s was practicing a kind of Prague structuralism and Benvenistean discourse analysis in semantics.
