"Leyli and Majnun" is a tragic love story based on the 16th century poem of the same name by the Azerbaijani poet Fuzuli.
I was seven years old when the opera "Leyli and Majnun" was performed for the first time in Baku.
I'm Chechen and was born in Grozny in 1900.

The premiere of the opera "Leyli and Majnun" took place on January 25, 1908, in the Taghiyev Theater in Baku.
Together he and his younger brother, Jeyhun (1891-1962), wrote the libretto based on the poetic rendition of "Leyli and Majnun" by Azerbaijani poet Fuzuli (1480-1562).
"Leyli and Majnun" is not a typical opera in the European sense of the word, as it is based on traditional Azerbaijani mughams, which are performed in their original form

Layla and Majnun, or Leyli and Majnun, is a classical Middle Eastern love story.
It is supposedly based on the real story of a young man called Qays ibn al-Muwallah in the Umayyad era, who upon seeing Layla fell violently in love with her, and went mad when his father prevented him from marrying her; for that reason, he came to be called Majnun Layla, literally "Layla's madman".
To him were attributed a variety of violently romantic Arabic poems, considered among the foremost examples of the Udhari school.

In addition, to translate “Leili Majnun” (which has been written on the carpet) into “Leili and majnoon,” we need a “Va (=and)” (in farsi) in between the two names.
Majnun which means crazy or mad (a prince?) had fallen in love with Leyli (a princess), and gave up all worldly goods and became a hermit because Leyli did not reciprocate his love.

His poem Leyla and Majnun, on the same theme as Nizami's, is the first of its kind written in the Azeri language (Nizami wrote in Persian), whereas his Book of Plaints is the first major prose work in Azeri.
Fizuli was from the Azerbaijani (Turkic) tribe of Bayat and was born in Baghdad in 1498.

I cannot help but agree, and refer to growing evidence of the integration of folk tales and religious symbols with symbols of the militarised present, one narrative ambiguously masking the other.
And so is it possible that this militaristic representation of the figure of Gais may also be a reference to him as a “majnun”, in relation to the current circumstances, and the experience of the destruction of references to a Buddhist heritage?

I'm really surprized that Nizami Ganjavi who lived in 12 century(1141-1209) and wrote 5 long narrative poems ("The Treasure house of Mysteries"(1773), "Khosrow and Shirin" (1181) "Leili and Majnun (1188), Seven Beauties (1197) isn't so well-known in west.
His works are so great that it's said Shakespeare is the Nizami of the West.
He's the author of best love poem "Leyli and Majnun".
