  Liaodong Peninsula - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Liao was a river during the Warring States that divided the Yan commandries of Liaoxi (Simplified Chinese: 辽西)(west of the Liao) and Liaodong.
The peninsula lies at the north of the Yellow Sea, between the Bohai Sea to the west and the Korea Bay to the east.
As a consequence of the Treaty of Portsmouth (September 5, 1905), which ended the Russo-Japanese War, both sides agreed to evacuate Manchuria and return its sovereignty to China, but Japan was given the lease for the Liaotung/Liaodong which had been coherced by the Russian government from the much weakened Qing dynasty then ruling China.

Zoologists said there were 2,000 to 3,000 seals spending this winter at Liaodong Bay as a result of the improved marine environment in the region.
The seals swim from north to south from December to May every year to reproduce, and Liaodong Bay is the southernmost reproduction site for harbor seals in the world, zoologists say.
At the beginning of the 1980s, harbor seals were abundant at Liaodong Bay, and about 2,000 to 3,000 harbor seals could be found there every year.
