 Understanding Liberal Christianity
Liberal Christians support inclusivity in church membership, with no rules excluding people on account of their supposed living of a "sinful lifestyle" or being "unrepentant sinners" -- recognizing that we all have sins to which we ourselves are blind.
Liberal Christians tend to take the researches of scholarship seriously, and to guide their own views of such matters as the interpretation of Scripture and issues such as evolution, human sexuality, social justice, etc., based on informed scholarly research.
Liberal Christians tend to focus very much on the specific teachings of Christ as opposed to theology based in Pauline and OT Scripture, in asserting what is the primary mode of determining how one should follow Christ, in terms of doctrinal and moral questions.

Liberal Christianity in the 21st Century
Liberal Christianity has found itself locked in a struggle with a more agressively radical Christian Right that has successfully asserted its view through political activism.
One of the hallmarks of Christian fundamentalist thinking seems to have been the idea that the concepts of a dying God who resurrected and brought salvation to humanity was a new idea brought forth by God through Jesus only at the meridian of time.
Spurred by the writings and public declarations of prominent Christian liberals such as Bishop John Shelby Spong, academics and historical researchers who are questioning the authenticity of Christian historical accounts, many Christians find themselves spending more time defending the faith than in effectively building up their religion.

 Conservative & Liberal Christianity
Conservative Christianity: The Husband should clearly be the head of the family, the wife should submit to the husband and the parents should be very controlling of their children especially using physical discipline to enforce proper behavior.
One Liberal Christian: I believe that men and women are equals before God and that a healthy marriage is an egalitarian one where both cooperate with each other and not one where one dominates the others.
The role of the Christian shouldn't be to try and impose one set of moral ideas for personal living on everyone else, but to work for justice-love in concrete ways and work towards helping people discover integrity, self-acceptance and connection with the Divine love in their lives.

Liberal-Bane — The Real Truth About Christian Fundamentalism   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
Christians, already concerned that Biblical principles were being corrupted by these developments, saw the encroachment of liberal Christian theology as the last straw in what they perceived, quite rightly, as an assault on their beliefs.
The irony is that because Christians refused to, in effect, renounce their faith, ‘liberals´ try to characterize Christian Fundamentalists as usurpers, some new and dangerous cult, when it is, in fact, the ‘liberals´ who are the late-comers, the ones who are assaulting traditional, long-standing beliefs.
If the tenets of the liberal theology sound familiar, it´s because they are the same basic principles that have for decades been trumpeted as the truth by ‘liberals´ in media, education, the social sciences and philosophy.

For the "Christian" to lean politically to the left means that he must blow off huge chunks of the Bible and replace the scripture with the make-believe notions of postmodernism`s malleable "Christ." Only after torturing the scripture can the Christian then fit liberalism into his supposed relationship with God.
For the Christian who believes that unfeigned faith in Christ should correspond with Jesus` high view of scripture, it is impossible to believe in God and be an adherent to postmodern liberalism.
The Christian skipping around the maypole wearing his rose-colored glasses who has a bent to the liberal left needs to understand something: if it were left up to the modern, secularized liberal establishment, he would be more restricted than Bill when Hillary`s in town.

Israpundit: Why do liberal Churches support the Palestinians
It is plausible however that anti-semitism that runs deep in Christianity and the Christian psyche, moves some Christian Churches including some mainstream Christian churches, such as the Presbyterians, the Church of Christ and the Anglican Church and many Christians, to turn a blind eye to the fact that radical Islam is their enemy.
What is also noteworthy is that these Christian churches and pro-Palestinian Christians invariably try to explain their reasons for their positions taken against Israel and in support of Palestinians, which explanations include denials that they are anti-semitic and that anti-semitism had any role to play in their determining their position.
That these Churches and Christians go to such great lengths to make such point, reveals that they are acutely aware of their own anti-semitism and the stigma that attaches to any Christian who engages in expressing such anti-semitic beliefs.
