At the presidential elections of the same day, the party supported Mwai Kibaki, who won 62.2 % of the vote and was elected.

Liberal Democratic Party and Ford Kenya leaders meet separately this week to decide the next course of action as debate rages in the parties over whom between the ministers tainted with corruption and their untainted colleagues should resign.
The Ford Kenya MP said the feeling in his party is that those mentioned in corruption should "make it easy for the president" by resigning.
In both Ford Kenya and the LDP there is a feeling that clean ministers are being lumped together with counterparts perceived to be corrupt from other parties.

The LDP secretary-general, who fears that his party will lose influence to a central organization, has vowed to "reject any attempt to make Narc a monolithic party with individual membership," even to the extent of blocking intra-party elections on the ground.
If her party and the LDP officially break with NARC, then the latter will be transformed from the ruling coalition to the second-largest bloc in a hung parliament, rendering Kibaki a lame-duck president and potentially paving the way for KANU to return to power.
