The Liberal Party was reduced from a majority to a minority government due, in part, to a scandal in which advertising agencies supporting the Liberal Party received grossly inflated commissions for their services.
When the Liberals formed a majority government after the 1993 election with Chrétien at the helm, party unity was assured by placing Martin, whom Chrétien had defeated for the party leadership in 1990, in the crucial role of Minister of Finance.
In April, 2005 David Kilgour, one of the party's two MPs from Alberta announced that he was leaving the party to sit as an independent member of the House of Commons due to the damaging allegations of corruption in the Liberal Party's Quebec wing based on testimony in the Gomery Commission inquiry.

No, he didn’t say that Chretien should be fired, nor did he say that the Liberal party should be cleared of all wrongdoing… what he said was much much deeper than that.
What I’ve seen from reports on France 2, Liberation, Le Figaro and le Monde is that in one of the “sensitive” suburbs of Paris, two youth might have committed a robbery and were hiding in a transmission/transformer site, got into the equipment and were electrocuted.
This sort of thing is not only damaging to the Liberal Party, but also to Canadians as a whole because it affects outsiders perception of Canada as a stable and strong country.

Part of the job of the inquiry is to find out where over $100 MILLION taxpayer dollars went through the Liberals' "sponsorship program", having already uncovered the fact that it was all funneled through Liberal Party-friendly ad firms, who in turn gave big donations to the Liberal Party.

Basically, the Liberal government contracted with several advertising firms to do federal government advertising and sponsorship of events and a lot of the money ended up being used for Liberal Party purposes.
The problem with this is of course that the citizens of a sovereign state have rights which are quite separate from their responsibilities as jurors.
The majority of Québécois believe that it is a rotten party and that it should be put aside for a while.
