Liberal Democrats (UK) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Liberal Democrats are a member party of the Liberal International and the European Liberal Democrat and Reform Party and their 12 MEPs form part of the ALDE group in the European Parliament.
The Liberal Democrats' opponents describe them as being all things to all people, having so many policies that they would find it impossible to implement them consistently were they to find themselves in government; while supporters say that this reflects a misunderstanding of the federalist and decentralised nature of the party.
According to this view, liberalism or political centrism is consistent with a left-right analysis of politics, and denial of this is to claim that we live in a post-modern world where nothing can ever be known and nothing is as it seems.

 Articles - Labour Party (UK)
The Liberal split, accompanied by this fundamental change in the system, allowed the Labour Party to co-opt some of The Liberals support, and by the 1922 general election Labour had supplanted the Liberal Party as the main opposition to the Conservatives.
The Labour Party's origins lie in the late 19th century, when it became apparent that there was an increasing need for a third party in Britain to represent the interests and needs of the large working-class population (for instance, the 1899 Lyons vs. Wilkins judgement that limited certain types of picketing).
The 1960s Labour government, though claiming to be far less radical on economic policy than its 1940s predecessor, introduced several social changes, such as the partial legalisation of homosexuality and the abolition of the death penalty.

Al-Ahram Weekly The 1995 parliamentary elections Coverage Islamist allies party ways
And yet Brotherhood, Labour and Liberal officials continue to insist that their alliance is as strong as ever.
Despite denials by Brotherhood, Labour and Liberal officials, the first sign that the alliance might have been overtaken by events emerged two weeks ago when the Labour Party's mouthpiece, Al-Shaab, published a 10-point statement expounding the party's position.
Labour Party insiders also say that opposition to the continuation of the alliance was mounting in party ranks as a result of the government's crackdown on the Brotherhood.

Socialism Today - New Labour under siege
MAY 4 WAS an electoral disaster for New Labour, which lost the London mayoralty to Ken Livingstone, lost 600 seats in local council elections, and came a poor third to the Liberal Democrats in the Romsey parliamentary by-election.
The Liberal Democrats' victory in Romsey raises the prospect of a strengthened Liberal Democratic party in opposition to the Tories and as an alternative to New Labour.
Nevertheless, Labour's 4 May rout has provoked turmoil within New Labour, with bitter recriminations amongst the leaders and party officials, a torrent of criticism from the party's dwindling membership, and a growing number of defections from the party.

The Liberals, from the near hegemonic position they enjoyed over the latter half of the nineteenth century, have, since 1945, occupied a rather marginal position in Welsh politics (with the exception of the flash in the pan that was 1983).
In these constituencies, the Labour vote is badly down in absolute terms (by between 33 and 50 per cent), but, compared to the coalfield at least, is in relative terms merely dreadful rather than catastrophic.
Once again, Labour voters stayed home in droves: the 1999 vote is barely more than a third of that achieved in 1994 (and half that achieved in the Assembly election).

09 Labour Party - 100 years of faithful service to imperialism
Politically, during this period the LRC, and from 1906 the Labour Party, continued to act as the tail end of the Liberal Party by concluding secret electoral pacts with the latter, with not the slightest attempt at independence.
Shortly afterwards, Labour, declaring first an industrial, and then an electoral, truce, went on to act as a recruiting sergeant in this, the most dreadful slaughter of the international proletariat, in order to decide which group of the two imperialist robbers was to have what share of the booty.
Formerly ‘a bourgeois labour party’, to use Engels’ remarkably profound expression, could be found only in one country because it alone enjoyed a monopoly, and enjoyed it for a long period.

Now it is true that if labour flexibility at the level of the firm has been significantly retarded, then more freedom for firms to optimise their factor combinations will raise productivity.
It’s important to focus on Morgan at this point because he, and I kid you not, is considered to be one of the Liberal Party’s “important and influential figure[s]”.
In fact, if labour is now about as flexible as it can get at the level of the firm then there will not even be a one-off increase in productivity —— there will, instead, be an accelerated decline.

The Uses of the State: Indians, Law, and Government Discourse in Early Twentieth-Century Ecuador
During the liberal period, Indians repeatedly appropriated the discourse of the central state, and rather forcefully and cogently argued, ironically, that they were timid and ignorant and thus deserved protection from the state, particularly in relation to labour issues.
During the liberal period, labour issues were at the forefront of indigenous petitions and complaints to the central state.
In contrast, a great deal of indigenous labour was tied up in the conservative stronghold of the highlands through what liberals saw as archaic and exploitative forms of extraeconomic coercion, which were seen as frustrating the export potential of the country.
