  PM - Liberals for Forests
Liberals for Forests is a single-issue party and the issue is stopping logging in old-growth forests.
The recently-signed Regional Forest Agreement which set out forest management for the next 20 years was supposed to alleviate concerns, but instead a group of high-profile Liberals have set their sights on bringing an end to logging in old-growth forests.
LISA STINGEL: Liberals for Forests have had independent market research carried out which found 47 per cent of Coalition voters would support a party with Liberal values with the aim of preventing logging in old-growth forests.

In the Agora: Liberals Not Eggheaded Enough?
"Liberals" and "the Democratic Party" are not the same thing; at times they do not even rhyme, although the two groups have been closely allied since the end of the 1960s and may be as closely aligned now as they have ever been.
Liberals come in many flavors, but a generic liberal (as opposed to a leftist, a Green or a moderate) would at least be more consistent than the Democratic Party on most issues.
Liberals are ideologues, and ideologues always have the indulgence of seeking to become pure and consistent.

16/9/2005 -- Debacle over Russian forests
Forests occupy 75% of Russia's territory, or 1,139 million hectares (1 hectare = 10,000 m2), stretching from the Pacific coast to the Baltic Sea.
Forests are a traditional environment in Russia, where mushroom picking is a national hobby and an ancient trade, bringing the joy of being at one with Nature and adding to the people's diet.
Although it said that "people may go to forests freely and without charge regardless of the ownership," many feel that bans and limitations may be imposed by the forests' new owners.

 Liberalism Defined
Liberals are opposed to this form of leftist anarchism; they believe that social organization must occur on a much larger scale to realize its full benefits, and this calls for central government.
Liberals therefore advocate a moderated meritocracy: those with the most merit continue to earn the most money or power, but a percentage of it is redistributed back to the middle and lower classes.
Liberals do not see this as a "giveaway" to the poor -- on the contrary, they view the runaway profits of the rich (especially in the later stages of wealth accumulation) as undeserved, so redistributing them back to the workers who produced them is necessary to prevent exploitation.

Herbert (Liberal 1.5%): That Labor’s position could hardly be any worse in Queensland was a widespread item of conventional wisdom, and a lot of media chatter suggested that the Townsville-based seat of Herbert was a particularly vulnerable seat for the Coalition.
Solomon (Liberal 0.1%): The Poll Bludger is happy to admit that he has a fair bit to learn about Darwin, whose residents voted for Country Liberal Party member David Tollner in sufficient numbers to give him a 2.02 per cent lead at stumps.
Although the Liberals think the difference in age and experience counts in their favour, it is not clear that this is so, especially for voters younger than Latham.

Liberals Cannot See the Trees for the Forests from Planck's Constant
But fewer forests do not mean fewer trees, just as fewer farmers than 100 years ago does not mean fewer farm-stuffs produced.
Add that to the trees in the 60% forests and we are up to 85% of the number of trees we had 400 years ago.
For those with a pencil, for every 100 trees in a forest there are 20 plantation trees; bringing our total tree count to 105%; that is, even with 40% fewer forests we have 105% of the trees we had 400 years ago.

 Forest Agreement deception by Coalition
Already a group, led by doctors, had formed a breakaway group called "Liberals for Forests." But the news that about a third of the so-called forests reserves were not timber country at all had struck at the heart of the principles of "Responsible Government."
The group calling itself Liberals for Forests was formed and started gathering members, and prominent long-time Liberals started publicly criticising the secret RFA, Premier Richard Court kept on defending the RFA -- but the joint Parliamentary Parties and the State Liberal conference convinced him (or someone) that the truth had to be faced.
Forest Industries Federation executive director Bob Pearce (a former minister in the Labor "WA Inc" government, still on the side of the proprietors!) criticised the decision, saying that the expected job losses of 1500 were a disgrace, and the decision was not scientific.

Then, within limits determined by the aggregate data, the paper explores the proposition that the LFF was able to exploit a gap in the political market-place for a right of centre environmental party and that it succeeded in siphoning off a significant share of the Liberal vote.
Alternative explanations for the LFF’s performance are also examined, in particular that it may have benefited from undifferentiated support for green parties at the state election or that its appeal had little to do with its anti-logging message but instead reflected Liberal voters’ disaffection with the Liberal Party.
At the same time, forest certification became politicized as different schemes were developed by different interest groups and governments and each vied with each other over the forest management standards to be applied and the processes by which certification and labelling could be granted.

Mr Humphreys stated that his party believed that the name Liberal Democratic Party and the abbreviation LDP did not so nearly resemble the registered names or abbreviations of either the Liberal Party or the Australian Democrats that the party's name or abbreviation was likely to be confused with or mistaken for them.
In this case, 3 presidential members of the AAT determined that the name of the party "liberals for forests" should be registered as a party under the Commonwealth Electoral Act 1918.

FOREST CHALLENGES FOR RUDD - Media Release - Tasmanian Greens
The Tasmanian Greens today said that visiting Labor Leader Kevin Rudd must recognise that outstanding forests of high conservation value are on the chopping block in Tasmania, and that a transition out of logging these places into utilising alternative wood sources can benefit employment in both a modern timber industry and in tourism.
Green Opposition Leader Peg Putt MHA urged Mr Rudd to acknowledge that Gunns’ proposed pulp mill is currently planned to log to exhaustion all remaining available native forests, and has a range of irredeemable flaws in relation to air and water pollution.
Ms Putt said that promised protection of forest areas in Tasmania last federal election was reneged upon by John Howard in the ensuing Community Forest Agreement, and for Rudd to accept this broken promise as sufficient protection would be unacceptable.

 Liberals flop
The most recent election, in Western Australia, saw the ALP win an unwinnable election: they won in 2001 by getting incredible preference flows and because the doctors' wives voted for the Liberals for Forests Party in protest against the logging policy of then incumbent Liberal government in WA.
Given the 2004-5 polls and the collapse of Liberals for Forests, the election was very difficult for the ALP.
This keeps going a streak: since 13 June 1998, the Liberals and their allies have won only three elections (all federal) while the ALP has won 17.
