Karsh Kale: Liberation - PopMatters Music Review
This album might not be as "exciting" (because thrilling and new) as Kale's debut, and there is a definite lack of great singer/songwriters Siddiqui Shah and Gigi on Liberation; Shah's absence is especially hard because he was the only one singing in English and now I can't understand anything.
The album's closing song, "Epic", benefits especially from the orchestral overlay, turning a droney piece of desolation into a semi-dance track for which the Flaming Lips's Wayne Coyne would give his left and right nuts.
The addition of the Madras Chamber Orchestra on half of the album's tracks is an especially inspired choice by Kale -- this filmic touch deepens those songs without cheapening them.

Charlie Haden : Liberation Music Orchestra - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
A fascinating reissue that comfortably straddles the lines of jazz, folk and world music, working up a storm by way of a jazz protest album that points toward the Spanish Civil War in particular and the Vietnam War in passing.
Reissue producer Michael Cuscuna has done his best with the mastering here, but listeners will note a roughness to the sound -- one that is in keeping with the album's tone and attitude.

G*Star - Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra Review
Antibalas Afrobeat OrchestraLiberation Afro Beat Vol 1 (Ninja Tune) is available now in all major record stores and retails at around £11.99
Taking music and vibes that wouldn’t be out of place in 1970s Cape Town and adding a swagger to it worthy of John Shaft himself, Antibalas have created an album worthy of being in any self-respecting music lover’s collection.
This album isn’t cool… it is beyond that, and beyond anything I had come to expect from modern world music.

Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra: The Essentials Of Afrobeat
Aside from relentless touring and a follow up album Talkatif in 2002, the Antibalas has steadily grown into a full-fledged orchestra to complement Perna’s passion for afro-beat, an urban West African dance-while-you-protest style that modernized traditional Yoruba music.
Saxophonist Martin Perna formed Antibalas in Brooklyn, back in 1998, and they later released their first album Liberation Afrobeat Vol.
Antibalas encompasses a union of Latinos, whites, African-Americans, Africans and Asian Americans – further embellishing world music not only in sound, but also in physical diversity.

Antibalas debuted their first albumLiberation Afrobeat Vol.1” in 2001, followed by “Talkatif” in 2002, both off the UK-based label, Ninjatune.
Based out of Brooklyn, Antibalas is a grand musical family with broad cultural and musical backgrounds who together, take on the musical spirit of the late Nigerian Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti and make it their own.
And so that’s, that’s sort of, it’s a whole universe of music from the earliest Afrobeat compositions to the ones he was recording in the mid 90s.

Antibalas remember everything that made Fela's music great; non-stop grooves studded with polyrhythmic percussion breaks, a hard-punching horn section, crisp guitars bolstered by a real organ.
The album's considerable power comes from the accumulating momentum of the massive, ultra-tight band playing tune after righteous tune.
They release their own records, including an earlier version of Liberation Afro Beat, recorded at their own studio.

Along with Crisis, a recording of a concert from a tour which Haden made with Ornette Coleman in 1969, Liberation Music Orchestra has the distinction of being the object of an attempt by the record companies' shareholders to withdraw it from the catalogue because of its "anti-American" content.

Cherry's experimentation in what later came to be referred to as "world music" found a culmination in the creation of the trio Codona with Nana Vasconcelos and Collin Walcott in 1978, which synthesized aspects of Brazilian, Eastern Indian, and a variety of folk styles within an improvisational context.
Born in Oklahoma City but raised in Los Angeles by music-loving parents, Don Cherry spent his childhood surrounded by the sounds of the swing music of the 30s and 40s.

 Sampling (music)
An interesting early use sampling was on Charlie Haden's 1969 release, Liberation Music Orchestra: A few of the album's numbers (such as "Song For Che") feature fragments of Gramophone recordings of songs from the Spanish Civil War, but integrated as part of a new song.
Goodman would later make a career out of similar "break-in" or "snippet" records, including such recordings as "Mister Jaws" and "Energy Crisis '74," and is today considered one of the fathers of pop music sampling.
In the 1950's, Bill Buchanan and Dickie Goodman released a song, "The Flying Saucer (Parts 1 and 2)", which featured samples of various then-popular songs, all taken out of context from their original material and used as answers to a wacky reporter's question about spaceships from another planet.
