Georgia Baptist Convention - Georgia Baptist Convention -
From our beginnings, Baptists have actively favored the Lordship of Christ, the authority of the Bible over tradition, believer's baptism, the priesthood of all believers, the gathered and congregational church, local church autonomy that encourages associationalism/connectionalism, the separation of church and state, and religious liberty.
Local Baptist congregations were thought to be the only true churches, together comprising the Kingdom of God on earth and able to trace their lineage back to the New Testament through a succession of non-Roman Catholic bodies.
Baptists should not accept the so-called baptism of other groups (not even their immersion), not share the Lord's Supper with them, not recognize their ordinations, and not permit their ministers in Baptist pulpits.

 Baptist History Articles
The Philadelphia Baptist Association was the first Baptist Association in America and it adopted the Calvinistic 1689 Baptist Confession from London with two additions, the laying on of hands and the singing of Psalms, and became the Philadelphia Baptist Confession of Faith in 1742.
Protestants and Baptists have a different approach to the Holy Scriptures and while some see it as a very minor difference, Calvinistic Baptists should see it as it is. Protestants, in the Westminster Confession, the Savoy Confession and the Thirty-nine Articles, etc. establish their doctrine, message and method on the whole Bible.
The independent Baptist spirit that prevails among Calvinistic Baptists in the 1990's is an American inheritance, and is not a historical Baptist one.

While the 1,800-church Fellowship, a group for moderates in the Southern Baptist Convention, is not technically a denomination, leaders believe it meets membership requirements for the BWA, which the Atlanta-based Fellowship has long supported financially.

The Fellowship reduced the $100,000 it had been contributing to the BWA to about $20,000 in recent years because of budget constraints, said Beth Fogg, a Fellowship Coordinating Council member from Richmond, Va.
