Liberty Meadows - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Liberty Meadows is a comic strip and comic book created, written and illustrated by Frank Cho.
Liberty Meadows is a toned-down remake of University², a strip Cho wrote during his college years for The Diamondback, the student newspaper at the University of Maryland, College Park.
The Liberty Meadows denizens have found themselves sharing their strip with Calvin and Hobbes, Lil Abner, Hagar the Horrible, Dilbert, and Cathy, among others.

Yoga Darsana Institute | Current Shop - Liberty Meadows Volume 2: Creature Comforts (Liberty Meadows)
Frank Cho's "Liberty Meadows" was one of the most original comic strips in years, with its hard-partying, gun-wielding animals and often insane storylines.
The animals (and people) of Liberty Meadows are still up to their strange hijinks, including Leslie getting A flea (big one), Frank being set up on a blind date, and Ralpha having some problems with a hair growth formula that includes female hormones ("Gimme a kiss, sweetie." "I'm a man, Dean").
Not only did "Liberty Meadows" stretch the boundaries of what syndicates would allow, but it also was a lot more self-mocking and intelligent.

If the Liberty Meadows comic strip ran in your local paper, it certainly makes sense to put the book in the window of your store (or in the most prominent location possible) in order to let fans of the comic strip know that the book is available.
Cho's reasons for ending the newspaper strip version of Liberty Meadows include his growing aversion to the tyranny of daily newspaper deadlines, but they also include his desire to escape the constraints of censorship imposed by various newspaper editors who are determined to keep newspaper comics suitable for 5-year olds.
Liberty Meadows contains characters and situations that have created a number of censorship hassles for Cho, who is forgoing the steady (and often considerable) income of a popular newspaper comic strip for the much more financially uncertain world of comic book publishing.

"Liberty Meadows" was a refreshing, too-brief reprieve on the comic page, and fortunately the stories of Brandy, Frank and the loony animals can be easily revisited in the first collection.

Like the old saying goes, "Write what you know." Liberty Meadows will continue as a comic book format, but I am toying with the idea of returning to newspaper syndication in about 10 years, because I have a couple of ideas for a brand new strip.

10-12-2003 12:38 AM It's about this animal sanctuary/rehabilitation/hospital called Liberty Meadows run by mostly nerdy Frank who's hopelessly in love with Brandy, intelligent, beautiful, who's a little naive due to her good nature, and most of the other characters are the animals in their care who are funny, interesting characters in their own right.
The plots are usually short and not very serial since it's a daily newspaper strip type of comic, but the great characters more than make up for it.
