  eLib: Electronic Libraries Programme
Library Resource Sharing and Discovery: Catalogues for the 21st Century: details now available of a one day workshop (in two locations) on the 3rd of March 2000 (London) and the 11th April 2000 (Glasgow) presented by the eLib CLUMP projects and co-ordinated by UKOLN.
The conference is being organised by the Electronic Libraries Programme and co-ordinated by UKOLN.
An electronic version of the eLib Supporting study "An Investigation into the Digital Preservation needs of Universities and Research Funders" by Denise Lievesley and Simon Jones of the Data Archive at the University of Essex, is now available.

All Multnomah county libraries are closed September 12-14 in order to install a new library catalog.
The library's Web site, which is undergoing its own upgrade to accomodate the features of the new catalog, will also be unavailable September 12-14.
From September 12—14, all data related to circulation of the library's collection is being transferred to a new library catalog.

 Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) Home Page
The State Library and Archives has issued its inaugural report that evaluates the usefulness of reports that must be prepared and submitted by a state agency to other state agencies by law.
The report recommends to the legislature the repeal or consolidation of statutory reporting requirements in order to reduce the volume of reports that must be prepared by state agencies, striking a balance between reducing the volume of reports and protecting the public interest and ensuring government accountability.
On June 15, the Texas State Library and Archives Commission approved a five-year plan for use of federal funding for libraries.

Tennessee residents have access to the Tennessee Electronic Library through their State Library, academic institutions, public libraries and schools.
TEL is administered by the Tennessee State Library and Archives, a division of the Tennessee Secretary of State's office.
Funds for TEL are provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, a federal grant-making agency dedicated to creating and sustaining a nation of learners by helping libraries and museums serve their communities.

The Electronic Text Center develops and maintains most of the library's collection of electronic texts, including materials in fifteen languages.
The Electronic Text Center information desk is available in Room 313 in Alderman Library during normal library hours.
In addition to newspapers, and journals and indexes, Library electronic collections include dictionaries and encyclopedias for quick fact-finding and overviews; online catalogs and book-finders such as Books in Print; directories with company and industry information; sources for biographical sketches or information about the U.S. and international governments; or image databases.

 Electronic Text Center at UVa Library
The Library's newest high-tech space for study and research is now open, just around the corner from Alderman Cafe.
An archive of historic documents and letters written by or on behalf of George Washington is now available online, thanks to a cooperative effort between the University of Virginia Library's Electronic Text Center and a scholarly editing project.
The Electronic Text Center is now open in the new Scholars' Lab on Alderman's fourth floor west wing (see announcement above).

The Archive contains electronic versions of more than 1500 literary works by many major authors in Greek, Latin, English and a dozen or more other languages.
Most of the texts are not immediately available on the net, but may be made available upon request (Contact the Electronic Text Service for assistance).
In order for electronic texts to be effectively searched and analyzed, they require some degree of markup, coding identifying key structural (and possibly content and/or display) features.

The Federal Depository Library Program Electronic Collection (FDLP/EC) is a comprehensive digital library of U.S. Government information, drawn from a wide variety of sources, and sharing the attributes of being of public interest or educational value and produced entirely at taxpayer expense.
The FDLP, through its network of depository libraries, is identifying, pointing to, acquiring or creating metadata for, and in many cases archiving electronic publications from all agencies, and will provide ongoing free public access through its suite of locator tools and services.
