 Pamphlets on Social Policy
For most of the collection the classmarks reflect a rough subject arrangement, similar to the Library of Congress classification scheme.
The Library was founded in 1896 as the library of the London School of Economics and a national library for the social sciences.
To find other pamphlets on the same subject researchers are advised to search under the issuing bodies referred to in the guide and a selective list of appropriate Library of Congress subject headings is given at the end of each section of the guides.

Oberlin College Library - Storage in Carnegie
One of the defining characteristics of the materials in Carnegie is that none of those items are classed in the Library of Congress classification, the use of which started with the opening of Mudd as the Main Library.
If you want an item with the location of Library Stacks, we recommend that you first search for it in the most probable library (Main for humanities, social sciences, mathematics, and computer science; one of the branch libraries for art, music, or other sciences).
From the Science Library, nearly all volumes of cancelled subscriptions (with some exceptions) are designated for storage, as are titles that ceased publication.

Welcome to the University of Chicago Magazine Online
Among the options the Regenstein staff has presented to its faculty advisory board are shelving the books alphabetically according to their Library of Congress classification, moving all bound journals to the compact shelves, or filling the compact shelves with smaller, less used collections.
Regenstein, the largest of the campus libraries, houses the University's general collections in the humanities, social sciences, and business.
The library retained the New Jersey- based Stillwater Consulting Group in February 1995 to analyze the use of campus library services and space, with a particular focus on Regenstein.

 Why a hierarchical index?
The indexers on this project are strongly encouraged to use pre-existing classification schemes, such as the ACM Computing Review Classification Scheme, or the Encyclopedia of Social Sciences scheme.
The problem with Dewey and Library of Congress subject headings is that they are all "a mile wide and an inch deep." Also, they don't closely match the sort of divisions that a domain expert would use, except in certain circumstances.
However, since this project is to have a distributed management model, we have assumed that it would easier if domain experts who are responsible for indexing a topic area chose a classification scheme that works best for their field.

 Brian Deer Classification System
Deer was conscious of the need to have a classification system that reflected modern First Nations concerns.[3] His systems were homegrown, based on the needs of a particular collection.
The classification system itself has been described as "the basic scheme on which others have patterned their work."[10] It would be a mistake to assume that Brian Deer himself was trying to design a universal system, a theoretical framework in which all classes of knowledge are organized.
The Brian Deer schedule does not function as a strict hierarchy in the way that the Library of Congress schedules function hierarchically.
