		Libretti's plea agreement correctly recognized that the District Court was not bound by the parties' agreement as to the appropriate sentence: "[T]he sentencing judge is neither a party to nor bound by this plea agreement and is free to impose whatever sentence he feels is justified." App.
		Libretti's responses made clear that he fully understood the nature and consequences of his guilty plea and was prepared to be sentenced in accordance with the plea agreement.

		Libretti for operas, oratorios, and cantatas in the 17th and 18th centuries generally were written by someone other than the composer, often a well-known poet.
		Eugène Scribe was one of the most prolific librettists of the 19th century, providing the words for works by Meyerbeer (with whom he had a lasting collaboration), Auber, Bellini, Donizetti, Rossini and Verdi.
		Certainly it is common for works of classical music to be admired in spite of, rather than because of, their libretti.

		The odd thing is that Gioia doesn't seem to have bloody READ (or even heard) the Auden (or Auden/Kallman) libretti -- he doesn't rip the libretti, he rips "The Witnesses".
		This may entirely be due to that before Mendelson started cranking out the Auden Collected, it was really quite difficult to get a printed copy of an Auden (/Kallman) libretto.
		Everyone and their sister demonstrating just how much more than me they know about libretti is obviously disturbing, but really not to the point.
