Calculation of Proposed Fishing Licence Fees
A commercial licence is issued under the authority of the Fisheries Act, and authorizes a person (individual or corporate) to operate a specified registered vessel using specific gear to fish for a particular species or set of species, sometimes in a given area.
In competitive fisheries, where all licence holders have equal access to the stock, licence fees for each species would be the same for all licence holders in a given vessel category and area.
Fees for all fisheries would be recalculated every three years, except where the management regime changes (for example, when IQs are introduced) or when the circumstances in a fishery change dramatically.

Victorian liquor licensing fees are set to be significantly reduced in a move expected to deliver substantial cost savings to licensed operators, existing and potential, the Minister for Small Business and Tourism, Ms Louise Asher, announced today.

Ms Asher said she was delighted the Victorian Government had been able deliver a licence fee reduction after a four year period where there had been no increase in fees.

The ITAT bench has held that the payment of licence fees by VSNL to DoT (which amounts to Rs 2,048 in the past 6 years) constitutes allowable business expenditure eligible for deduction.
VSNL's argument in 1994-95 for deduction of the licence fee had been rejected by the assessing officer (AO) in Mumbai, on the grounds that the directives of the then finance minister and the CBDT stated that the DoT levy and the licence fee constitute ``sharing of revenue'' between DoT and VSNL.
The contention of the IT Department that the licence fee payment could not be allowed because it resulted in an enduring advantage and was, therefore, capital expenditure, was accepted at the Commissioner (appeals) stage also.
