Licence-free software - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The philosophical disagreement still causes problems for Licence-Free Software, not least because the free software and open source philosophies are far stronger influences than the "licence-free" philosophy is, and thus hamper the spread of licence-free software.
Licence-free software is software that is copyrighted but which is not accompanied by a software licence.
Another major difficulty with licence-free software is that base copyright law is not uniform, particularly with regard to computer programs.

In context of free software it must be free not in terms of free of consideration but free in terms of being unrestricted in terms of use.
Commercial exploitation of free software code increases the duty of care on the grantee including care in checking the rights of the grantor, certainly legal precedent on rights and duties of care are concerned.
However, it is prudent to suggest that free software code has should be subject to more rigorous checks on the rights, given the very possible anonymity and unstructured and unsupervised environment it may have been created and developed.

 The Free World Licence
The licence achieves this by restricting use of the software to free platforms only, a mechanism that is largely successful in separating hackers from suits because of the almost-exclusive use of free platforms by the free software community and the extremely high use of proprietary platforms by the corporate community.
The purpose of The Free World Licence is to provide a means for commercial software vendors to contribute their software to the free software community and experiment with free software business models without threatening the proprietary-platform sales that underwrite their survival.
Software released under The Free World Licence cannot be used (under the licence) on proprietary platforms such as Windows NT and Solaris.

There are some complaints about distortions of movie picture ratio due to some DVD playback software not taking account of aspect ratios; but this will subside as the DVD playback software matures.
Furthermore, computer and laptop widescreen displays are in the 16:10 aspect ratio both physically in size and in pixel counts, and not in 16:9 of consumer televisions, leading to further complexity.
