Lichfield District Council - Information | Policing and public safety
Lichfield District Council works in partnership with agencies across the district and county to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour as well as reduce the fear of crime.
Last year we took part in a wide range of partnership initiatives that contributed to a reduction in recorded crimes, burglaries, vehicle crime, business crime and nuisance behaviour.
We want people who live, work and visit the district to feel safe and secure and able to enjoy all it has to offer, and we're working hard to keep it this way.

  City of Lichfield
The first authentic notice of Lichfield occurs in Bede's history, where it is mentioned as the place where St Chad fixed the episcopal see of the Mercians in 669.
At the time of the Domesday survey, Lichfield was held by the bishop of Chester, where the see of the bishopric had been moved in 1075: it is not called a borough, only a small village.
Lichfield sent two members to the parliament of 1304 and to a few succeeding parliaments, but the representation did not become regular until 1552; in 1867 it lost one member, and in 1885 its representation was merged in that of the county.

Lichfield (district) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lichfield is a local government district in Staffordshire, England.
The dignity and privileges of the City of Lichfield are vested in its town council (a civil parish) (which is therefore known as Lichfield City Council, and covers only 14 km²), and not the District Council which covers nearly 25 times this area.
The district was formed on April 1, 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, by a merger of the municipal borough of Lichfield with most of the Lichfield Rural District.

 Lichfield City Council Background
In 1553, by Queen Mary's Charter, Lichfield was made a city and county, with its own Sheriff and corporation, and the City remains one of the few towns in England which still appoints this ancient office.
In 1974 the old City Council ceased to exist, and was replaced by the new Lichfield District Council, combining the former City Council and the former Lichfield Rural District Council.
The city was the only 'unparished' part of the new district, and so "Charter Trustees" were appointed to look after the civic and ceremonial property of the old city, and appoint the offices of Mayor and Sheriff.
