The longest Roman aqueduct was the one built in the 2nd century AD to supply Carthage in what is now Tunisia, which ran for 87 miles (141 km).
The Catskill Aqueduct carries water to New York over a distance of 120 miles (190 km), but it is dwarfed by aqueducts in the far west of the country, most notably the Colorado River Aqueduct which supplies the Los Angeles area with water from the Colorado River nearly 250 miles (400 km) to the east.

To ensure that the Lichfield Canal would not be blocked by the M6 Toll motorway it was necessary to construct an aqueduct to carry the canal over the new road.
They propose that the lock should be moved to immediately adjoin the eastern end of the aqueduct preferably such that the head wall of the lock could also form the support for the aqueduct trough, allowance being made for the skew of 26 degrees and the various water passages.

The Lichfield Canal is certainly starting to move ahead with its restoration thanks to the Lichfield and Hatherton Trust.
The canal covers a distance of just under 7 miles from Ogley Junction on the northern tip of the BCN to Huddlesford Junction on the Coventry Canal.

The Chad in question was a cleric who played a prominent role in the conversion of the Mercians to Christianity and was, from 669 to his death in 672, bishop of the Mercian diocese of Lichfield.
Old documentation implies that there was a church on this spot in the early 14th Century and amongst the earliest occurrences of the place-name is a reference to William de Chadkirk in 1340.
