		Harry Hupp was born July 4, 1816, in Shenandoah county, Virginia; came to this county with his parents; was married to Helen Stevens, of Licking county; they have no children of their own, but have adopted and raised seven children, all of whom are married and living, but one.
		She was born in Tuscarawas county, Ohio, December 10, 1850, and is the daughter of john and Margaret Speck The father died in 1876, at the age of sixty-four years.
		She formerly taught district school in different parts of Licking county; her last school was in 1871 in number three, Hopewell township; she is the mother of one child: Minnie Mantie, born April 5, 1873.

		He help:-d build the Ohio and Maumee canals; established one of the first iron foundries in the State; was president of the first bank in Granville, and was foremost in nearly all the leading enterprises of the county.
		From the time he ceased to be prosecuting attorney of the county until 1879, he was entrusted with the defence of nearly all of the important criminal cases in Licking county, and was known as a very successful criminal lawyer.
		He served as brigade major of Ohio militia from 1835 to 1839; was admitted to the bar in 1845, and elected associate judge of the common pleas court of Licking county in the same year, serving two years; at the beginning of the Mexican war in 1846 he was appointed adjutant general.
