Lidsville   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
“Lidsville is the Koo-Koo-Kookiest, Lidsville is the Ki-Ki-Kickiest, Lidsville is the Groo-Groo-Grooviest Lidsville is the living end…” Lidsville's impressive cast included Butch Patrick (TV's Eddie Munster) as Mark, Charles Nelson Reilly as Hoo-Doo, and Billie Hayes (H.R. Pufnstuf's Witchiepoo) as Weenie the Genie.
Seventeen half-hour episodes of Lidsville were produced and ran on ABC for two seasons (the second season comprised entirely of repeats).
(But in all fairness, Lidsville WAS better than their atrocity The Brady Bunch Hour variety show....which still ain't sayin much!) This one had all the corny and shoddy touches the Kroffts were famous for, but added a weird "psychedelic" feel to the stupid proceedings.

Lidsville hit the nation's airwaves in 1972, courtesy of those wacky brothers, Sid and Marty Kroft, creators of such classic (albeit, trippy) kids shows as Land Of The Lost and H.
The hat grows, and he falls inside of it and is whisked away to the strange land of Lidsville.
In Lidsville, everyone is a hat except for an evil magician named Hoo Doo (Charles Nelson Reilly… this man needs no introdction and if you don't know who he is you're simply not doing your homework).

"Lidsville" (1971)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
from Washington, D.C. "Lidsville" is the story of Mark ("The Munsters' " Butch Patrick) who is budding magician.
His laugh, his goofiness, and his campy evilness thrilled me. Mark seemed too goody-two-shoes to me, and the inhabitants of Lidsville were too clumsy and inanimate to really do much.
Probably the worst episodes had Mark almost getting out of Lidsville, because at the last second he'd be forced back into the alterna-dimension and I'd feel horrible for him.

Specifically, I was thinking of Lidsville, the Krofft brothers' follow-up to the popular H.R. Pufnstuf (oh ho, is there a marijuana reference lurking in there somewhere?).
If there were a Hall of Fame for the weirdest TV programs of all time, Lidsville would occupy a hallowed place in that institution.
Lidsville was every bit as freakish as the preceding description makes it sound, and more besides.

Lidsville is a land in which almost all the people are hats and they live in hat-shaped houses.
Played by midgets (children wouldn't have been allowed to work the hours in those conditions), the hats are clever, whimsical stereotypes: The Cowboy Hat sounds like John Wayne; the Gangster Hat sounds like Edward G. Robinson; the Opera Hat sings all his dialogue in a manic tenor.

The image on Lidsville isn't as good as Pufnstuff since the living hats were shot on video.
In my opinion, what truly makes "Lidsville" a cult favorite among college grads and acid trippers is how it juxtaposes hyperactive variety show humor with bizarre scenery, ultra-cheesy special effects (including a large injection of Chroma Key), and an entire cast of heavily costumed midgets.
This kind of true creativity and wit put LIDSVILLE above the sickening corn and mush of the other Sid and Marty Kroft weirdouts of the time, and along with the BUGALOOS, this is one of the few that I would sit and watch a moment of today.
