Buffy - Pastor Steve's favorite show!
To me, the episode clearly points out the danger of viewing sin as only being something "out there," outside of one's self in other people in the world, a condition to be opposed when one sees it in others, while all the time ignoring the obvious sins in one's own life.
Buffy and Riley have a moving scene together which not only gives the two ex-lovers closure, but also serves as a parallel to the biblical accounts of Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well and Jesus and the woman who was about to be stoned.
In fact, Buffy not accepting any of the guilt the spirits tried to lay on her is one of the highlights of the episode, as is a great "Slayer moment" when we discover that Dawn's "weapon" is a cell phone with which to call Buffy.

Buffy and Giles both slam a door in the face of the other at some point in the series: Giles does it to her in The Dark Age and Buffy does it to him in Lies My Parents Told Me.
In Lies My Parents Told Me, Buffy says to Giles, “It was boring, old, and British… like you… le Brynner.” Yul Brynner (1915-1985) was a Russian/American actor, notable for his role as the King in the 1956 movie The King and I.
David Fury notes in his DVD commentary for this episode that when Robin, Giles and Buffy are talking in the school, Giles’s eyeline does not meet up with Buffy’s, though he is supposed to be looking at her.

My suspicion is that at least one of these writers has at some point in the past had a decent therapist, or at least knows how the process is supposed to work.

The buffy one i more or less agree with except for the exclusions of becoming and graduation day (I would also sub Lies my parents told me for Conversations with dead people, but to each his own), the angel list on the other hand.....wow, no sleep tight, apocalypse nowish, or deep down.....that's just not right.
Restless is my favorite Buffy episode because it's artsy and it's a character study of the core four.
The beauty of Buffy and Angel is like James Bond, everyone has their favorite actor and film, so what else can you do other then appreciate another view of a fan, there'll never be a perfect list.

Buffy 7.17 "Lies My Parents Told Me" - Reviews. [Archive] - @forums
As for Buffy, even with all the headshrinking we've seen with her this season, I still don't think I know where she's going and who she is now, with all this General stuff.
But I hope that Buffy the toughass army general is not who we end the show with, because I see lots of other things we've actually liked about her character over the years, rather than just her double standards and self centeredness.
I remember Buffy being in a similar position towards the beginning of the show with Angel...Xander and various other characters getting in hre face about her commitment to Angel, even during the times he was a liability.

On the other hand, he killed whatsisname that was Glory's alter ego after Buffy chose to spare him.
Still, his actions in this episode, and especially his attitude after Wood failed to kill Spike seemed more like the Giles who doped Buffy in keeping with the archaic ritual backed by the now defunked counsel.
Maybe he's just frustrated because he can't provide the usual research on the FE and all he's been able to do is tell Buffy that it all falls to her.
