 Ontario - Encyclopedia.WorldSearch
Ontario is bounded on the north by Hudson Bay and James Bay, on the east by Quebec, on the west by Manitoba, and on the south by the American states of Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York.
Southwestern Ontario is similar to the adjacent US Midwest, with the urban areas generally leaning left (especially Windsor which is a union bastion), and the rural areas are fairly conservative, although not as conservative as rural parts of surrounding regions of Ontario and neighboring states, due to the industrial nature of the region.
Ontario's right to Northwestern Ontario was determined by the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in 1884 and confirmed by the Canada (Ontario Boundary) Act, 1889 of the Parliament of the United Kingdom.

 Lieutenant Governor biography .ms
Lieutenant Governors are nominally appointed by the Governor General but in practice are chosen by the Prime Minister of Canada usually in consultation with that province's respective premier.
In Australia, the Lieutenant Governor is the subordinate of the Governor of a state, who serves as Administrator, or acting Governor, in case of illness or disability of the Governor.
In Canada, the Lieutenant Governor is the representative of the Queen within a province, much as the Governor General is to the federal Government.

Early Canada Historical Narratives -- UPPER CANADA'S LIEUTENANT-GOVERNORS AND THE COLONIAL OFFICE
Governors were selected, not because of any special aptitude for or knowledge about the colony, but for reasons usually unrelated to the interests of the colony to which they were being sent.
Military governors had few political or diplomatic skills, and they held the extreme views of their aristocratic Tory class which was that the finer things in life should be only for those with prestige, property and influence.
When Governor Gore promptly appointed his own secretary to this position, people in the province were disappointed, for they knew the governor would exercise close control over the agent, monitor his actions and interpret his reports to suit the interests of the governor and not necessarily those of the colony.
