The New Atlantis - A Journal of Technology and Society
Today, video games are something of an institution: The market for gaming software and hardware (not including computers) has been estimated at upwards of $10 billion—more than movie industry profits at the box office.
But today, video gaming has become a habit of parents and young adults, and we have yet to discover what the consequences of this will be (or already are) for parental attitudes about children’s use of the games.
The game is designed to duplicate the combat situations faced by Hezbollah operatives in their battles with Israeli troops in 2000 in southern Lebanon, including the geography, mine fields, number of enemy combatants, and even the weather.

We have enjoyed playing the Game of Life and find that the children like if because it does not take forever to play or to get around to their next turn, the game board has enough variation to make things interesting, and the randomness of the game helps equalize each player's chances.
Second, the tiny "people" game pegs are absurdly small, so small that many adults will have a hard time picking them up and placing them into their cars (which sometimes tip over, meaning you have to pick up the pegs again).

The Video Game Revolution: "The Future of Video Gaming" by Michael Dolan | PBS
Because game designers are inhibited only by creativity and available technology, the potential will grow as their capability to move more polygons cheaply comes to fruition — something that the computer industry is working on every day.
The key to the future of gaming will be for parents to understand and appreciate those distinctions and to not champion games based on one educational tour-de-force or condemn games entirely based on a violent first-person shooter.
As people in their 30s and 40s continue to play video games into their senior years, the genres of games will expand to accommodate those audiences and their discretionary income.

The first game in the series was all about fighting aliens etc, and to a certain extent so is the sequel, but this one is much different.
The very first part of the game is almost identical to 1984 (everyone wearing blue-jumpsuits, being herded around to compact militarised cities, giant electronic billboards of "Big Brother" on every wall, the militaristic police using excessive force at every juncture).
There are other towns/cities in the game that are not under the control of the "state", and these are very reminiscent of the proletariat areas of 1984.

Some common games show up as very rare here because collectors don't want them (they are common because arcade operatos might be sitting on tons of them in warehouses), while some fairly scarce games are grabbed by collectors every time they show up.
Additionally, some games made in the last 5 years are still making money for operators and are thus not yet affordable to the typical collector.
