In 2004 during the affair with election and speach of Rocco Buttiglione, the conservative Italian nominee as European Commissioner for Justice, Freedom, and Security, LPR MEPs demanded the dissolution of the parliament because they felt it was under the influence of a homosexual lobby.
LPR opposes: selling land to foreigners, reinstituting capital punishment, abolishing the draft, legalizing "soft drugs", abortion and euthanasia, promotion of homosexualism.

The Liga Polskich Rodzin became the first party of the antisemitic extreme right in postwar Polish history to gain seats in parliament.
The Liga Polskich Rodzin (League of Polish Families — LPR) now constitutes an important political force in the country after winning 7 percent of the vote and 40 seats (out of 460) in the parliamentary elections.
Another prominent LPR representative, Zygmunt Wrzodak, is hardline antisemitic chairman of the Solidarity trade union branch in the Ursus tractor factory.

Two in particular are worthy of mention due to their unexpected electoral success: the hard-core farmers’ group Samoobrona (Self-defense) won 10.2% and Liga Polskich Rodzin (League of Polish Families), a right-wing Catholic party — 7.87%. Samoobrona portrays itself as the only organization that truly cares about the needs of the most disadvantaged Poles.
As a sign of protest against worsening economic conditions in the rural areas and diminishing viability of agricultural production, the party has been organizing roadblocks and farmers’ protests throughout the country.
Liga, on the other hand, perceives its role as the moral standard-bearer in the political arena, and demonstrates strong Euro-skepticism specifically targeted against the possibility of increased foreign land ownership in Poland after EU accession.

It therefore proved fertile ground for the ultra-conservative Liga Polskich Rodzin or League of Polish Families, and for the populist Samoobrona or Self Defence Party which will send 10 and seven MEPs to Brussels respectively.
Of the two, the Self Defence Party, led by the suntanned maverick Andrez Lepper, is better known abroad - though its showing in the European elections did not live up to its advance billing.

According to the survey released by Estymator, one of Poland's polling groups, 76% of the polled did not support the government position on land sales to foreigners.
The poll results indicated that the government's proposal was opposed mostly by elder, less educated people and those backing the League of Polish Families (Liga Polskich Rodzin) and Self-Defence (Samoobrona).
Self-Defence (Samoobrona) improved its showing from 8% to 10%, while both, the League of Polish Families (LPR) and the Polish Peasant Party (PSL) were backed by 9% of Poles.
