  Like Mike
NBA Entertainment helped to produce Like Mike, which is why real NBA teams and logos, and real NBA stars playing themselves are all over Like Mike.
Overall, Like Mike is an enjoyable fantasy, especially for children, but not much else.
Otherwise, Like Mike feels like a blatant attempt to ride the coattails of commercial juggernaut Michael Jordan to bring in some ancillary revenue to the NBA.

Crotts for Congress :: You'll Like Mike
State Senator Mike Crotts, a Republican Candidate for Georgia's Eighth Congressional District demanded that House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) apologize for remarks she made in which she implied President Bush was incompetent and that he had caused American soldiers to be killed in the war in Iraq.
Mike Crotts is that leader for Georgia and for the nation.
Like Ken, I realize that we are fighting an enemy who will give no quarter and that our military and law enforcement agencies need the best equipment and technology to combat this danger, and in Congress I will work for that.

I admit that I'm a sucker for films like this, but anyone over the age of ten would have to be a sucker to pay for "Like Mike," which runs every cliche in book up and down the court before fouling out.
I like when rappers make the leap to film (it keeps them out of the studio), and while Lil' Bow Wow has the charm and presence to carry a film, he doesn't get the support he needs from the writers and director John Schultz, who seems to be on cruise control.
Watching "Like Mike" reminded me of that great Miss Hannigan line from "Annie": Why any kid would want to be an orphan is beyond me. Why anyone past puberty would want to sit through "Like Mike" escapes me. The coming attraction trailer is actually better and more entertaining than the film.

The majority of Like Mike resided in “A”-level, so despite this mix of small problems, I still felt satisfied with most of the image.
The Like Mike commentary actually appeared more entertaining than it probably sounds, just because the energy of the young actors made it something unusual.

 Like Mike, Preview-Online
Mind you, Like Mike does have an element of fantasy about it: it’s the story of what happens when Calvin Cambridge’s dreams come true.
Calvin is an orphan who lives in the Chesterfield Group Home, which is ruled with a rod of iron by the wicked Stan Bittleman (Crispin Glover), and from which Calvin stands less and less chance of being adopted as every ‘prospective parents’ day’ goes by.
Sister Theresa’s well-intentioned ignorance of one of America’s favourite sports is one of the keys to how Like Mike works: you don’t need to know much about basketball - or even the career of the real-life ‘MJ’ - to get what happens.

Robert Alt on Iraq on National Review Online
If you tell someone from Baghdad that you are from America, you are likely to be met with excitement and the common exclamation: "I love America." They will want to know where you are from in America, and what you think of Iraq.
And their children are likely to be drawn to the American soldiers — waving, smiling, and running to meet them.
Hence, walking down Rashid Street, you are likely to hear random gunfire; in the Karada region of Baghdad, when a neighborhood begins to prosper, a bomb is likely to go off.

 Like Mike film review
Like Mike's set up is perhaps burdened with one too many clichés.
The creaky, run down orphanage governed by a mean principle (Crispin Glover) is in there alongside the obligatory bully and Calvin's conveniently PC buddies, the bespectacled geeky white kid Murph (Johnathan Lipnicki) and the Asian girl Reg (Brenda Song), but the boundless energy and charisma of its star more than compensates for its predictability.
Like Mike meanders at times and could certainly have done with the omission of a number of pointless and stupid scenes, but it possesses an endearing story, a refreshing innocence and a star whose film career looks likely to soar even without the aid of someone else's shoes.

2002 Like Mike - Movie reviews, trailers, clips and stills
Dog-day afternoons at the multiplex have taken on a literal meaning this summer: Releases of the new Scooby-Doo live-action comedy and Like Mike, the latter a vehicle promoting the kid-friendly non-acting talents of pint-size rapper Lil Bow Wow, are both sharing screens at neighborhood bijous.
Still, Like Mike rates as an amiable slam dunk for its target audience, who will likely ignore the zillion product placements that clutter the screen (the film was produced by NBA Entertainment) and just enjoy the action.
Curiously, Michael Jordan himself doesn't make an on-screen appearance in Like Mike, but that's OK; chances are his super-size persona would have dwarfed the modest ambitions of this family flick.

 DVD Times - Like Mike
The main problem is that Like Mike isn’t wholly sure as to what kind of film it’s trying to be.
Certainly, the orphan angle could have provided a moment or two of pathos, though when a film is as rigidly by-the-numbers as Like Mike, there is no question of how things are going to end up, and therefore no dramatic tension.
Whilst I’m not expecting Like Mike to match such basketball films as William Friedkin’s underrated Blue Chips or even Steve Jones’ Hoop Dreams documentary, I was certainly hoping that it would provide more than its negligible pleasures.
